German term

Vakuumausgleichendem Beutel

German to English Tech/Engineering Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
"Die 20 l Flasche wird an der oberen Öffnung miteinem Vakuumausgleichendem Beutel, anstelle eines Septums, verschlossen." (copy pasta)

Septa are for capping off the flasks to create a seal.

A Vakuumausgleichendem Beutel, I presume, is an expandable balloon to balance against pressure changes if/when gas is released in a reaction between the contents in the flask?

In any case, I find Vakuumausgleichendem an odd descriptor, and knowing what it means will affect how Beutel is translated, of course.

As little certainty of insight from the Proz gallery would be appreciated (I am not currently subscribed to GWIT to cross reference btw).

Pressure compensation bag

A better German term in my opinion would be "Druckausgleichsbeutel". In many cases hard-cased pressure compensation devices are used, but the "Druckausgleichsbeutel" is described as being a flexible alternative, especially in medical use or in museums when exhibits need to be kept under specific atmospheric conditions.

The proposed translation applies to this German term.
