@Anne I'm not a member because I have nothing to sell :-)

@SJLD: Thanks for supplying this explanation. (How come you are "not Proz member"?)
SJLD Aug 8, 2011:
can't post since not Proz member For those who have never heard of "inert" dressings:
http://jppr.shpa.org.au/lib/pdf/gt/GT0612.pdf

All dressings should be sterile, of course. "Inert" means there is no substance in the dressing that interacts with the wound. "Inert" implies the existence of "active" dressings, which do indeed exist. See "bioactive dressing" http://www.google.com/search?q=bioactive dressing&ie=utf-8&o...

inert gauze

Without further context, a literal translation seems appropriate, although an "inert dressing" would be more common than an "inert gauze", unless reference is made to a specific brand of kaolin impregnated gauze. (OK, the whole English term, "inert gauze dressing", will cover that anyway ;-)

sterile gauze

"inert gauze" makes no sense whatso, because it implies the potential existence of dynamic gauze.
