thanks Ivy, re: Ria's comment - source text did not mention any character reference, in the UK dalawa ang hinahanap na references, one is character and the other is professional reference. No one can 'use' anyone, it is bad English

This is of course, considering you are applying for a job, but if its for loan, mortgage or financial reason, you could say:
