So a \"plaque\" is the same as a \"platine\" and the \"plate\" could be the same as a \"board\"?
BTW on some types of alternators called \"à excitation compound\" in French jargon, the compounding plate could be the same as the excitation plate; if truly compound the excitation winding is simply in parallel (and this is a plate with terminals), in smart compound an electronic device controls the excitation current (and this could be a board/PCB with integrated electronics)
Was this a discounted writing also for the French text?

I don't know what the manufacturer is paying their technical writers, but there are a few places in the document where some more precise explanations could have been justified. You've only seen the worst on proz. They don't go in much detail about the "plaque d'excitation", so I cannot add any further information about how it is put together. Thanks again for all your suggestions (whether dicounted or not :-) in this and other Kudoz questions.
The discount-rate translation is not offered for product manuals and similar stuff and is almost only used by private individuals for less important translations. Same principle as the discount supermarkets.
