Interfacultad > Inter-faculty Rock Appreciation course
According to this document:
"Facultad de Artes
Departamento de Música
Cursos Interfacultades
[...]
Bajo Eléctrico IF [...]
Batería IF [...]
Canto IF [...]"
etc.

"Inter-faculty" or "Cross-faculty" would be fine in British or Commonwealth English:
"AM289 is a second-level half-credit inter-faculty course available to Open University students from 1976."
https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/81953480.pdf
I'm sorry, but I don't know what you would call this in the US, though Columbia does use the term:
"Other interfaculty course"

I'm pretty sure these courses are associated with the institution in my first reference. Here's another indication:
"Tema visto y estudiado en la clase “Apreciación del Rock IF” en el año 2009."
https://repository.javeriana.edu.co/bitstream/handle/10554/5... (p. 20, n. 16).

What it means, I presume, is a course open to students from other faculties, or at least other departments, and maybe even to people not enrolled at the university.

Chema draws attention to what the document I've cited says about the instrumental IF courses:
"Los Cursos Interfacultades de Instrumento del Departamento de Música están orientados a posibilitar el acercamiento del público en general a la interpretación musical de repertorio clásico a través de un instrumento
determinado."
I half-acknowledge this in my last note by referring to people not enrolled at the university. If it is true of the music appreciation courses, as well as the instrumental courses, then these would appear to be, in effect, outreach courses, though "interfacultades" does seem an odd term for that.

Hi Giovanni. It's a pleasure. I'm only sorry I couldn't quite pin down the US equivalent for you.

: Maybe interdepartmental or interdisciplinary in the US. And they tend to say program here rather than course.

Thanks, Phil. I think "interdepartmental" could well be the best bet.

: El original (primer enlace) describe los "cursos interfacultades" como cursos de la propia facultad abiertos al público en general...

Muchas gracias, Chema :-) // Cierto. Curioso este uso de "interfacultad", me parece. Se refiere en concreto a los cursos instrumentales. No sé si será el caso de los cursos IF de apreciación musical; a lo mejor sí. Entonces tal vez "outreach courses"?

Musical school schedule
Here's a music school schedule that includes an "IF" after the names of many musical subjects, such as "Canto IF." https://www.scribd.com/document/152609169/HORARIO-PLANO-1330...
Note from asker:
Thank you so much Jessica! It's been a long time. Do you think "interschool course" would be an option for an American audience? |
