This is from the abstract for an article about the diagnosis of osteopoikilosis. Spanish from Spain for UK English.

La medicina nuclear tiene su importancia porque determina el carácter no metastático de estas lesiones y establece el diagnóstico diferencial con otras enfermedades (tumores primarios benignos, focos de osteomielitis crónica,…), siendo el hallazgo típico en la gammagrafía ósea CON fosfonatos un estudio normal.

The "con" is in capitals because it was missing from the original source text, and when I queried the phrase with the client, suspecting that something was missing, that was what I was given.

I am stuck on the final part of this sentence, and really can't get my head round it. My draft of the first half is as follows:

Nuclear medicine plays an important role as it can help to determine that lesions are non-metastatic and can differentiate the disease from other possible diagnoses (primary benign tumours, foci of chronic osteomyelitis etc…) ......

Hi Liz! I've been trying to get my head round it for days! The only possible sense I could make out of it is that the bone scan using phosphonates usually gives normal results when osteopoikilosis is present whereas the other, metastatic illnesses such as the benign tumours would show up on such a scan.

I am trying to make sense of this sentence. Do you think there should be and "en" in front of "un estudio normal", or else "y en un estudio normal". From what I gather, there is more than one type of bone scan, so they could be talking about two?
