Remettre la coupe en jeu quand elle a dj t gagne une fois. To put it back into competition...or something like that. Is there any other way to express this in UK english?
Non-ProZ.com Apr 28, 2005:
I'm afraid to put more. Some will say that I'm making them do my translation.
David Sirett Apr 28, 2005:
and this little phrase is on its own, not in a sentence, devoid of any other context?

compete for the cup

mettre en jeu = to risk something or put something at stake
la coupe = The America's Cup

Perhaps this means to defend your championship if you already have the cup.
Peer comment(s):

agree David Sirett : but not necessarily the America's cup, there are plenty of other cups out there

put the cup up

Pretty straightforward: the cup is being put back into play, meaning the champions (the present holders of the cup) are willing to put up the cup as a challange to contenders.

will put the cup back into play

I believe this is a good answer because the cup is part of the winning awards again
