Catalan term

nau (not in a church)

Catalan to English Tech/Engineering Architecture architecture
I know what it means, just can't come up with the English word.

nave

I would say the 'nave' which is not exclusively for churches. It's a large vaulted space of any kind within a building, particularly large buildings.

An alternative would be to just generalise, using the word 'space' say.

'...that supported and covered the space below/the nave....?
