French to English Other Real Estate
In the description of a property for sale, we have:

une maison de 223m2 sur 2 étages (R + 2) comprenant :
1 salon salle à manger, 1 cuisine, ..........

I thought R might mean RDC (rez-de-chaussée), but then RDC +2 would make "3 étages", so it doesn't add up. Are they just specifying that neither of the 2 floors is a basement? Or is "R" something else entirely? Thank you for any help.

Look in the glossary for this - there are a few - it is RDC (rez-de-chaussée)

I think that the RDC is not considered an "étage" so you're looking at a main floor plus 2 storeys.
Note from asker:
I forgot to say that later on there are two "longère" houses which are "R+1". But isn't a longère usually just on the ground floor?

agree B D Finch : As the rdc is in some regions, and particularly in country areas, "non-habitable", in which case 1e étage is the main floor. Ground floor plus two storeys might be better than main floor?
