This study is considered research because, although the study drugs nifedipine GITS and candesartan, have individually been approved by the Regulatory/Health Authority to be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure lowering (antihypertensive) drugs for the treatment of essential hypertension, the optimal dose(s) of nifedipine GITS and candesartan used together possibly in a future fixed-dose combination product for the treatment of essential hypertension has not been established yet.
What is the drug being tested?
Nifedipine GITS is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering) drug which belongs to the group of drugs called calcium channel blockers (CCB). Nifedipine relaxes (widens) your blood vessels (veins and arteries), which results in a decrease of blood pressure and at the same time makes it easier for the heart to pump and reduces its workload. Nifedipine is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain), respectively. Nifedipine GITS has been approved by your Regulatory/Health Authority for use in this condition and is sold under the brand name [XXX].
Candesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), antagonizes the influence of certain substances found in the body that make blood vessels to constrict. This effect dilates constricted blood vessels and ultimately lowers blood pressure. Candesartan is a drug which has been approved by your Regulatory/Health Authority for the treatment of hypertension and heart failure, respectively, and is sold under the brand names, Blopress, Atacand, Amias, and Ratacand.

● Provides detailed steps to help associates implement and comply with Section 7.4.1 (Records Subject to Legal Hold Notices) of the Global Records and Information Management Policy (LEG 105).
● Establishes company requirements and responsibilities, through its associates, to preserve information that may be relevant to a reasonably anticipated litigation or investigation.
What are the key points of this procedure?
● When appropriate, the Global Legal Organization will issue a Legal Hold Notice to instruct associates to preserve information that may be relevant to a litigation or investigation.
● Any materials subject to a Legal Hold Notice must be preserved and cannot be disposed of under any circumstances, including under the company’s normal records retention policies and procedures.
● All Associates play a role in helping the Global Legal Organization identify situations where a Legal Hold Notice may be appropriate.
Why do we have this procedure?
● To help associates understand how to comply when they receive a Legal Hold Notice.
● To minimize exposure of the company and its associates to violations of law and any resulting criminal or civil penalties and fines, damage to company business and reputation, and/or serious harm to the company’s position in litigation that might result if the company failed to identify situations where a Legal Hold Notice was appropriate, and thereafter preserve relevant information.
