English to Spanish: The Resolution of Disputes General field: Law/Patents Detailed field: Business/Commerce (general)
Source text - English In our society, a variety of methods can be used to resolve conflicts and disputes. The most common is a compromise or settlement agreement between the parties to the dispute. Conflicts and disputes that are not settled by agreement between the parties may be resolved by litigation. A second important method for resolving unsettled conflicts and disputes is known as arbitration, submission of a controversy to a non-judicial body for a binding decision. Litigation has been the traditional method of resolving disputes, but today more and more disputes are being submitted to arbitration because litigation consumes much time and money. In a third method, many issues are referred to a governmental agency for decision. Some disputes submitted to these agencies are between whole segments of society, and thus the decision is of general application in a manner similar to a statute. In this chapter, we shall learn something about the basic legal principles applicable to arbitration. The role of administrative agencies will be discussed in chapter 8.

Experience
Years of experience: 24. Registered at ProZ.com: Jun 2009.
I have been an Interpreter/Translator for about nine years now, and I have to say that it has been a most wonderful experience. It has given me the opportunity to understand the aspects of comprehension in a more detailed way than I used to. I have learned the real value of the English and Spanish language as it is being conveyed.
Being an interpreter has given me the opportunity to interact with many types of people in many areas. For example, I have had the opportunity to work with Doctors, which has given me a broader view of the medical field, I have worked alongside with attorneys in the translating field and this has opened more fields as well in the translating industry. I have had the opportunity to work with prisoners inside of the jails as well as in the courtrooms, which has given me the opportunity to understand the law and how it is applied. I have worked with school districts and have had the opportunity to work with parents as well as with students on a one on one basis, which has left me with a pleasant feeling of satisfaction when I am able to make them aware of what is going on in school.
I have done everything from translating a simple ticket to the translation of a 1000 page book. I am currently working on my goal to obtain a Masters Degree in Interpretation/Translation and everyday that goes by, I am one-step closer to reaching it.
