I am really struggling to find out the meaning of 'Lohn', and not in the 'wages' sense.
I am translating a company profile and the company specialises in 'Oberflächenbearbeitungen und Behandlungen zum Verschleiß- und Korrosionsschutz moderner Bauteile'. And then comes a very problematic sentence:
'neben der Herstellung von Anlagen werden Versuchs- und Lohnbehandlung angeboten.
Also:
'Kunden kommen aus den Bereichen Lohnhärterei, Automobilindustrie, ...'
Finally, the company describes its activities as:
Entwicklung, Produktion und Vertrieb von Anlagen zur Plasmaoberflächenbehandlung sowie Dienstleistungen als Lohnbehandlung.'
Any help with this sentence or just on Lohnbehandlung would be appreciated.

I came across the term 'Lohnhaerterei' in a translation I was doing for a small engineering company a few months ago, and I too was very puzzled by it. I therefore actually phoned the company to enquire what it means, and can confirm that the above answer is correct.
