From a text on unloading hydrocarbons from ships:
"Alle navi per le quali è stata autorizzata da parte Responsabile di Logistica **l’azotatura** delle tanks di bordo, il terminale è in grado di fornire AZOTO SECCO alla pressione di XX bars con una portata media di XX Nm³/h"
Not sure if this would be "nitrogenization" or "azotization" or if I made both of them up!

I think the idea here is to purge the tanks, removing oxygen. In the Italian they are specifically saying that this is with nitrogen (so nitrogen purging is an option)

Please see above - "specifically saying that this is with nitrogen (so nitrogen purging is an option)". It may well be the best option, as Alfredo suggests.
