Hola,

No es una duda para una traducción urgente, sino más bien un desafío lingüístico. Tiempo atrás me tocó traducir un artículo acerca de la caída de las "empresas tecnológicsa" en la bolsa estadounidense, cuyo título era "Reality bytes". Es fácil ver el juego de palabras, asombrosamente redondo y eficaz en inglés. No tengo a mano la traducción, pero creo que puse algo así como "La cruda realidad de los bytes". Quisiera saber si habría podido poner algo mejor.

Gracias David, por ese reto. Esos juegos de palabras intraducibles son la peor pesadilla del traductor, pero al mismo tiempo me encantan cuando se me ocurre una solución más o menos adecuada.A mi una vez me tocó una sobre las nominaciones para los Oscar, y el encabezamiento rezaba: "Nolte but goodie" Lo traduje como "Nolte olvides de Nick" Lo mejor de todo es que a los editores les gustó y usaron mi solución. Saludos y a ver a quien se le ocurre algo mejor

Gracias a Andrea, Myrtha, GAby, George y a "alambrelec" (no sé tu nombre) por jugar este apasionante juego. Los puntos van para la respuesta con más agrees., que me parece muy buena, por lo demás. Lástima que en el intertanto Proz estuvo caído casi un día completo y de algún modo esto impidió la participación de otros colegas. Bueno, qué le vamos a hacer.... Reality bytes! :-))))

Explanation:
Por lo menos en la Argentina decimos que algo hace clic (o click, otro tema) cuando "calza" o entra, por ejemplo, en la cabeza de alguien, o en una situación, etc.
Si la imagen le dice algo a tu lector (que no sé de dónde es), podrías decir algo así como "Las empresas de computación hacen clic con la realidad", o "El clic de las empresas de computación con la realidad", or something along those lines. Ninguna de las dos me convence, pero a lo mejor sí podés pensar algo vos sobre esta base.

Otra posibilidad todavía mejor sería buscar algún mensaje de error frecuente (como el famoso Abort, Retry, Fail?, que ahora ya no se usa, creo) y quizá ponerlo con esta estructura:
"Empresas de computación: Abortar, Reintentar, Cancelar?" (o lo que fuera). Pero la inspiración para el mensaje tendrá que venir de otro lado... :-)

No creo que se puede duplicar el juego de palabras tan conciso y elocuente. And if you can't be cute, then just be accurate. Your translation was perfect -- if without the same "bite":-) despite the "crudas" reference...;-)

(I know bytes is units of bits, not hard disks, but it still conveys the meaning and it's the only play of words I have come up with.)

Creo que va a ser difícil superarte David. A mí cuando me tocan títulos tipo: "Animal Farm" (hablando de granjeros), o "The Importance of Being Earnest" (tratando temas de comunicación en la familia), etc, etc, etc, me devano los sesos tratando de mantenerme lo más aproximado a la realidad. Pero a veces es difícil. Hay revistas (e.g. "The Economist") que VIVEN poniendo este tipo de títulos, muy significativos en Inglés pero en español...

Tu juego de palabras de "crudo" y "bytes" (bites), me parece genial. Sobre todo porque no hay que desmerecer al lector. La persona que lee este tipos de artículos, es una persona instruída y muy apta para entender los juegos de palabras.

Lo que he visto muy gracioso es que la película "Reality Bytes" ha sido traducida como "Bocados de realidad" (!)

En resumen: difícil superarte!

Que tal esa? Utiliza tanto los "bytes" del original como el verbo morder, en una frase entendible por un hispanoparlante, y que conserva el mensaje del original.

Explanation:
Okay, now I am streching :-) You have me obssessed with this title, like a jingle that I can't get out of my head!

The connotations are several and the sarcasm incisive. It is like an expletive, "Reality bites!" as in "Reality sucks! It stinks! It blows!" ... And bytes just discovered that!

It is also saying that harsh Reality Bites the Bytes, taken a mordida out of the bytes bubble... Reality is eating at Bytes as in a game of Pacman.

It is also saying that Bytes Bite bitter Reality, as someone suggested "Bytes bite the dust." Or the suggestion that bytes take reality as bitter medicine.

You can get all those innuendos and more out of just those two words! With just the combination of a brief expression and throwing off the spelling.

I am stating the obvious in hopes of finding the one meaning that can be said with a play of words in Spanish. But maybe the reality is that you just can't do that in Spanish-- Talk about Reality Bites!

Bocados de Realidad is really cute but it doesn't have the bite that the English version had, nor the byte.

Hmmmm! No can do. Now I really would like someone to come up with the perfect-- punt!
