Discussion

Farida Vyachkileva Jan 6, 2011:
Patrick! This device operates as a controller rather than selector since it is intended to generate and supply the electrical signal, proportional to the deviation from preset indicated airspeed and acts upon pitch channel of autopilot system to maintain (or hold) the airspeed. In the reference you gave there are other not correct terms ,concerning engine units and so on.

"Indicated Airspeed Hold Switch" might even be more accurate.

Farida, I suggest you google "indicated airspeed Hold" and then do the same for "indicated airspeed controller", you may find it revealing. Pilots use the expression "hold" to talk about maintaining a particular airspeed or altitude while flying their aircraft. Patrick.D
