Irgendeine geologische Struktur kontrolliert den Vorgang der Vererzung. Bei Gold sind das häufig Basaltgänge, deren hohe Eisengehalte den hydrothermalen Lösungen durch Bildung von Eisensulfiden Schwefel entziehen, womit es auch zur Ausfällung von Gold kommt, das in solchen Lösungen in Schwefelkomplexen enthalten ist.
