English translation: the release

German term or phrase: Abwicklung (der Rückstellungen)
I would be glad of your help with the correct translation of Abwicklung in this context:

"Die einzelnen Teilrückstellungen sind so zu dotieren, dass bei der Abwicklung der Schadenrückstellungen insgesamt keine Verluste auftreten"

I've been using Abwicklung for "settlement" of claims, but I am wondering whether it is correct to use it here, or whether I should say "liquidation of the provisions for claims" in this instance?

the release of the reserves (which means reducing the money allocated to those reserves)

\"liquidation\" can be used in the same way, as you suggest. In any case, I think the idea of \"settlement of claims\" sort of overlaps, since the provisions for claims are probably liquidated in order to settle the claims.
