Social Sciences

This is in a course outline for 3rd-year psychology.
The sentence is:
Le deuxième cours magistral développera d'un point de vue théorique, les lieux de structuration de la famille basés sur la Loi tant sociale, anthropologique que psychique de l'interdit de l'inceste.
I'm really struggling with "lieux" in this context
Thank you

spaces in which (x) is structured
This phrase is likely to refer to structuration theory, as developed by theorists such as Anthony Giddens. See links below, which note that Giddens defines structuration as "the structuring of social relations across time and space, in virtue of the duality of structure" (Constitution, p. 376).
"Lieux" or "spaces" in this form of analysis are where situated social actors interact with social structures to adopt or change them.
Seems likely that in this course that approach is used in relation to law, anthropology, incest taboos etc...

Alternatively it could be "spaces of family structuration" in this context.

ways in which (family) is structured / configurations of family structure
I tend to be cautious w. "lieu", as it often happens - especially in academic writing - to mean something else than "space". A more detailed context would probably help here, but I will simply suggest that translation in this case might require to step away from a space-centered perspective - although the explanation provided by Text_Head appears very convincing indeed.
