Thanks to all for the sound arguments. After much deliberation I have decide to err on the side of caution/simplicity and hence choose Mrs. Beng aception, while the other one is very valid too.

Identity

According to Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka's terminology database, jati diri is translated as "identity". Please refer to http://prpm.dbp.gov.my/Cari1?keyword=Jati diri&d=376296&#LIH...

neutral yam2u : I think the DBP translation fails to indicate that it is more of self-awareness of / being true to one's identity rather than just identity.

SELF-ESTEEM; SELF-IDENTITY

While the translation given for this term by pprm-DBP is identity, in this context it actually has a passive connotation. It refers to the sense of self and is thus talking about self-esteem.

Hence, I think it is more accurate to translate it as self-esteem or alternatively to add the prefix self- to identity.
