I can't understand why the study proposal would get budget approval. Surely the proposed study would get budget approval. Is the Dutch just a little ambiguous?

It reads to me like the finance officer is the one that provided the budget for said research proposal - not the proposal itself.

It seems a little illogical to me for a study proposal to get budget approval. It would make more sense for a proposed study to get budget approval. Or maybe it's just me being overly fussy.

Is there a specific problem here? This is basic terminology. Have you already rejected the standard translations?

I don't think the distinction you're making is very important - the meaning of the Dutch is clear. I wouldn't repeat "financial", by the way: all budgets are financial, so it's redundant.

agree Richard Purdom : I would agree with the term you suggesy, but it is 'door' de finance officer, niet 'van' - looks like he has propsed this study him/herself, hence the confusion.

Actually I think Tina's interpretation is more likely. The Dutch should probably read: "Akkord is verkregen door de financieel deskundige op de financiële begroting van het onderzoeksvoorstel." But thanks for agreeing.
agree Tina Vonhof (X) : I tend to agree with Richard. If the financial officer approved the proposal, why does it not say that instead of 'akoord is verkregen door' - that sounds to me like it was a committee or management decision.
