| Reference: „DIAKONIA” — USŁUGIWANIE, CZYLI SŁUŻBA BOŻA Reference information: Ściśle związany z greckim słowem diakonos jest rzeczownik diakonia, oznaczający „służbę”, czyli „usługiwanie”. Znajduje on podobnie zastosowanie zarówno w świeckim, jak i religijnym, świętym sensie. Przykład pierwszego z nich mamy w Dziejach Apostolskich 6:1 (NP), gdzie czytamy: „W owym czasie, gdy liczba uczniów wzrastała, wszczęło się szemranie hellenistów przeciwko Żydom, że zaniedbywano ich wdowy przy codziennym usługiwaniu”, przy czym chodziło o rozdawanie żywności. Kiedy diakonia ma znaczenie religijne, w niektórych językach tłumacze stosują specjalny wyraz określający służbę wzniosłą, zaszczytną, podobającą się Bogu (jak angielskie ministry). Po polsku trudno o lepsze słowo niż „usługiwanie” lub wyrażenie „służba Boża”. Dlatego według Biblii gdańskiej apostoł Paweł tak wypowiada się w Liście do Rzymian 11:13 o swej działalności na rzecz pogan: „Usługiwanie moje zalecam”; niektóre inne przekłady podają: „Służbę moją chlubnie wykonuję” (NP), albo: „Chlubię się posługiwaniem swoim” (BT).
