Again, it's all down to context. Of course, there is the term from Engineering "leverage" = un apalancamiento, apalancar=lever up, move up with a crowbar., but in Business & Finance too. However, after doing a search on Yahoo & Altavista, one finds that this magical word seems to applied to everything from technology to the US Lotto!: http://www.winninglotto.com/ (see below). Basically, what all these authors seem to referring to when they employ leverage is is the "pulling power", as in the term political leverage. Bearing this in mind, I would agree with cbenitez and translate the term as "fuerza, poder, ventaja, influencia".

Apalancamiento, no suena demasiado bien pero en Bus/Fin. se usa muchisimo. Quizas puedas jugar con propiciar como verbo o sino usar las otras alternativas que propusieron nuestros colegas.
