Selection of the type of wall most appropriate for a site depends on permeability requirement, site conditions, consideration of impact on adjacent structures, long term effectiveness, and costs. Slurry walls are increasingly being used for underground pollution or contaminant control at mining and industrial sites, and compatibility of the cutoff wall with the surrounding ground and groundwater is a key design consideration. The speakers will present recent experience in design and construction of various types of slurry cutoff walls, as well as the use of bio-polymer slurry for construction of a permeable wall.
