Source text - English According to sources, 'Dada Match Factory', a unit of Dhaka Match Industries Company Limited, whose 70% share is owned by 'Bhaiya Group', was closed down on 18th August, 2010 citing financial crisis and labour unrest. Earlier, Bhaiya Group was forced to shut down the Dhaka Match Factory in the year 2005, due to labour unrest.
The Dhaka Match Industries which was established in the 1950's came under the supervision and direction of Industries Ministry and BCIC, soon after the indepence. In 1983, a private company from Sweden, called Swedish Match Factory showed keen interest in Dhaka Match and submitted a proposal to the BCIC for investment. On 24th July, 1984 BCIC and Swedish Match Factory signed a deal according to the policies of the company. As per deal, Industries Ministry and BCIC handed over 60% of the ownership to the Swedes. Out of the remaining, 10% was given to another organization from Sweden known as 'Swede Fund' and BCIC kept the ownership of the remaining 30%. As part of the deal 'Dada Match Works' and 'Dhaka Match Factory' were united to form 'Dhaka Match Industries Company Limited'. Under this company, two units were opened; Dada Match at Khulna and Dhaka Match at the Postagola area of Dhaka. However, in 1984 the Swedish Match Factory came across their first barrier while trying to run both the factories. Although they could restart the operation of Dada Match Works at Khulna, when they tried to modernise the factory and restart the operation of Dhaka Match Factory, the labour unrest started. Hence, the factory couldnt be restarted. Later, the Swedish Company kept Dada Match running till 1993.
Translation - Bengali জানা গেছে, আর্থিক সংকট আর শ্রমিক অসন্তোষের কারণে ভাইয়া গ্রুপের ৭০ ভাগ মালিকানাধীন প্রতিষ্ঠান ঢাকা ম্যাচ ইন্ডাস্ট্রিজ কোম্পানি লিমিটেডের অধীন খুলনার দাদা ম্যাচ কারখানা বন্ধ রয়েছে ২০১০ সালের অক্টোবর থেকে। আর শ্রমিক অসন্তোষের কারণে ঢাকা ম্যাচ কারখানা ২০০৫ সালের আগস্টে বন্ধ করে দিতে বাধ্য হয় ভাইয়া গ্রুপ। জানা যায়, পঞ্চাশের দশকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত ঢাকা ম্যাচ ইন্ডাস্ট্রিজ দেশ স্বাধীনের পর চলে আসে শিল্প মন্ত্রণালয়ের অধীন বিসিআইসির নিয়ন্ত্রণে। ১৯৮৩ সালে সুইডেনের একটি বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠান সুইডিশ ম্যাচ ফ্যাক্টরি বিসিআইসির কাছে ঢাকা ম্যাচে বিনিয়োগের আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করে। এরই অংশ হিসেবে ১৯৮৪ সালের ২৪ জুলাই কোম্পানি নীতিমালায় বিসিআইসি ও সুইডিশ ম্যাচ ফ্যাক্টরির মধ্যে চুক্তি হয়। দুই পক্ষের চুক্তি অনুযায়ী শিল্প মন্ত্রণালয় ও বিসিআইসি ৬০ ভাগ মালিকানা দেয় সুইডিশকে। সুইডেনের আরেকটি প্রতিষ্ঠান সুয়েড ফান্ডকে দেওয়া হয় ১০ ভাগ এবং বাকি ৩০ ভাগ মালিকানা থাকে বিসিআইসির। চুক্তির অংশ হিসেবে দাদা ম্যাচ ওয়ার্কস ও ঢাকা ম্যাচ ফ্যাক্টরি একত্র করে গঠন করা হয় 'ঢাকা ম্যাচ ইন্ডাস্ট্রিজ কোম্পানি লিমিটেড'। এ কোম্পানির অধীনে খুলনার দাদা ম্যাচ ও ঢাকার পোস্তগোলায় অবস্থিত ঢাকা ম্যাচ কোম্পানি নামে দুটি ইউনিট চালু করা হয়। কিন্তু ১৯৮৪ সালে দুটো ইউনিট একসঙ্গে চালাতে গিয়ে প্রথম বাধার মুখে পড়ে সুইডিশ ম্যাচ ফ্যাক্টরি। খুলনার দাদা ম্যাচ ওয়ার্কস চালু করতে পারলেও তারা ঢাকা ম্যাচ কারখানাকে আধুনিক করে চালু করতে গেলে শ্রমিক অসেন্তাষ দেখা দেয়। ফলে এটি আর চালু করা যায়নি। এ অবস্থায় শুধু দাদা ম্যাচ ১৯৯৩ সাল পর্যন্ত চালু রাখে সুইডিশ কোম্পানি।
