However, although Mummy did love me, at the time I was born she was still too full of her personal drama with my father, with her own young life, so that I took second place in her heart. But my sister (perhaps “thanks” to her liability to illness, and fear for her life) at once took first place in Mummy’s heart. Mummy loved her passionately, literally could not get enough of her; and so, in my child’s soul, I realised what true mother love could be, and that this love was not for me; I had to be content with the left-overs. Сущность изобретения

Задачей изобретения является улучшение технических характеристик электродвигателя рассматриваемого типа, в первую очередь повышение его крутящего момента.
Другой задачей настоящего изобретения является обеспечение увеличенного крутящего момента без серьезного усложнения конструкции двигателя и его эксплуатации.
Автором изобретения экспериментально было установлено, что решение указанной задачи может быть обеспечено путем подбора определенного соотношения и, соответственно, расположения числа электромагнитов статора, постоянных магнитов ротора и пластин коллектора и их взаимного расположения, а также схемой подключения катушек электромагнитов к источнику питания.
Катушки смежных электромагнитов ротора согласно изобретению
соединяются попарно, согласно последовательно, а с катушками пары
15 диаметрально противоположных электромагнитов - встречно последовательно,
выводы их обмоток, соединенные с соответствующими токосъемниками,
шунтируются конденсаторами с образованием таким образом каждыми двумя
парами диаметрально противоположных электромагнитов совместно с
конденсатором резонансного контура. Количество (n) постоянных магнитов
20 статора и количество (m) указанных резонансных контуров определяются из
- соотношений n=10+k, m=2+k, где k является целым числом (k=0,1,2,3...),

Ротор связан в конструкции мотор-колесо с приводимым во вращение колесом (не показано), при этом применительно к настоящему изобретение, целесообразно непосредственное, безредукторное соединение. 15 Отличия электродвигателя, выполненного в соответствии с настоящим
изобретением, заключается в строго определенном соотношении числа магнитов статора, электромагнитов ротора, электропроводящих пластин коллектора, а также в схеме подключения катушек электромагнитов. Последние соединены по следующей схеме. Катушки двух смежных электромагнитов соединяются друг с другом согласно-последовательно (на фиг. 1 и 2 это соответствует соединению от начала обмотки, обозначенного как "Н", к концу "К"), а с парой катушек электромагнитов, расположенных диаметрально противоположно встречно-последовательно (от конца "К" к началу "Н"), не соединенные между собой ("свободные") концы обмоток 25 подсоединены к токосъемникам 8 и одновременно шунтированы конденсаторами 11с образованием резонансного контура.
Определенному числу пар таких контуров должно соответствовать
определенное число постоянных магнитов статора. Так, показанному на фиг.
1 и 2 варианту выполнения двигателя с 2 резонансными контурами должно

Общая закономерность соотношения числа резонансньгх контуров и числа

The invention relates to electric motors, primarily for vehicles, in the form of motor-wheels, and is intended for use in electrically propelled bicycles, wheelchairs, scooters, motorcycles, buses, and also winches, cranes etc.

Technology level
Collector motor-wheels with no reduction gear, in which the rotation of the wheel is brought about directly by the electromagnetic interaction of magnetic stator-and-rotor system, are known (SU 628008 A, 15.10.1978; SU 910480 A, 07.03.1982; SU 1725780 A3, 07.04.1992; US 5164623 B1, US 6492756 B1, 10.12.2002).
The closest analogue to the proposed invention is an electric motor for a vehicle, containing a stator with an even number of permanent magnets located in a circle at uniform pitch, a rotor with electromagnets, a distributing collector having conducting plates round its circumference, combined in a set order into groups with positive and negative polarity, connected to a direct current supply and separated by dielectric gaps, and also brushes contacting the said collector, connected to the windings of the electromagnet coils (US 6384496 B1, 07.05.2002).
A significant fault of this motor is its low torque, which severely limits its field of practical application.
It should be noted that various technical solutions for increasing the torque of motor wheels are already known; however, they involve the use of high-voltage power supplies and complex control circuits, so that they are difficult to produce and not very reliable in use.

Substance of the invention
The aim of the invention is to improve the technical characteristics of an electric motor of the type under consideration, primarily to increase its torque.
Another aim of this invention is to provide increased torque without significant complication of the design or use of the motor.
It has been established experimentally by the author of the invention that a solution to this problem can be found by selecting a specific ratio, and corresponding disposition of the number of electromagnets in the stator, the permanent magnets in the rotor and the collector plates, and their position relative to each other, and also by a specific way of connecting the electromagnet coils to the supply.
The coils of adjacent electromagnets in the rotor, in accordance with the invention, are connected in pairs, in series aiding, and to the coils of a pair of diametrically opposite electromagnets, in series opposing; the leads of their windings, connected to the corresponding brushes, are shunted by capacitors, so that each two pairs of diametrically opposite electromagnets, together with the capacitor, form a resonant circuit. The number (n) of permanent magnets in the stator and the number (m) of the said resonant circuits are determined from the equations n=10+k, m=2+k, where k is a whole number (k=0,1,2,3…), the number of plates in the distributing collector is taken as equal to n, and the axial lines of the dielectric gaps in the distributing collector are aligned along the axial lines of the permanent magnets in the stator.
Such a relation of the number of electromagnets, permanent magnets and collector plates, and such an electromagnet commutation circuit containing capacitors, provides resonance of currents in the low frequency circuits formed by the pairs of diametrically opposite electromagnets and the capacitors connected to them. The rating of the capacitors should be coordinated with the number of coil windings shunted by these capacitors.
It was unexpectedly discovered that the resonance phenomena are amplified in the event of the number of loops in the coil windings electrically connected to each other (diametrically opposite electromagnets) differing from each other by an integral multiple .

The ratio between the numbers of loops in the windings of the one and the other diametrically opposite electromagnets in each pair should be 1/32, 1/16. 1/8 or 1/4.
The rotor can be located outside or inside the stator.
The brushes may be able to be displaced round the circumference relative to the collector in order to adjust the commutation of the electromagnet coils.

Brief description of the drawings
Figs. 1 and 2 show a side view of an electric motor made in accordance with the invention for two possible versions: with an external rotor (Fig. 1) and an internal one (Fig. 2).
Fig. 3 shows a graph of the voltage in the leads of the electromagnet coils connected to each other, forming a resonant circuit with the capacitor connected to them.

Examples of the implementation of the invention
As is apparent from Figs. 1 and 2, the electric motor made in accordance with this invention contains a shell (1), serving as a casing, a stator (2) and a rotor (3).
In the variant of the invention shown in Fig. 1, the rotor (3) is located outside the stator, and in the variant shown in Fig. 2, inside the stator. In the structure of the motor-wheel, the rotor is connected to the rotated wheel (not shown); as applied to this invention, a direct connection with no reduction gear is advisable. The electric motor stator (2) has a cylindrical magnetic conductor (4), to which permanent magnets (5) of alternating polarity are fixed.
The electric motor rotor (3) carries electromagnets (6), the coils of which, when the motor is running, receive direct current from a DC supply (not shown) via the collector distributor (7) and the brushes (8). The collector distributor (7) is fixed, but the brushes (8) are connected to the rotor, and as it rotates, they are displaced relative to the conducting plates (9) of the collector distributor. The said plates are connected to the DC supply with alternating polarity and are separated from each other by dielectric gaps (10).
The principle of operation of an electric motor made in accordance with this invention is no different from normal. The change of polarity of the rotor electromagnets as the brushes connected to them are displaced relative to the collector plates connected alternately to different poles of the DC supply, with the alternating polarity of the permanent magnets in the stator, creates an attraction of each electromagnet of the rotor to the magnet of the stator nearest to it in the direction of rotation of the rotor, and a repulsion from the preceding one.
The novelty of the electric motor made in accordance with this invention lies in the strictly determined ratio of the number of stator magnets, rotor electromagnets and conducting collector plates, and also in the manner in which the electromagnet coils are connected up. The coils of two adjacent electromagnets are connected to each other in series aiding (in Figs. 1 and 2, this corresponds to the connection from the beginning of the winding, denoted by “H”, to the end, denoted by “K”), but to the pair of coils of the electromagnets located diametrically opposite, in series opposing (from the end “K” to the beginning “N”); the ends of the windings not connected to each other (the “free” ends) are connected to the brushes (8) and are simultaneously shunted by capacitors (11) to form a resonant circuit.
The set number of permanent magnets in the stator must be compatible with the set number of pairs of such circuits. Thus, the variant of the motor in accordance with Figs. 1 and 2 with two resonant circuits must have a stator with 10 permanent magnets and with precisely the same number of conducting plates (9) of the collector distributor. The overall relationship of the ratios of resonant circuits and number of permanent magnets is determined from the equations n=10+4k, m=4+k, where n is the number of magnets, m is the number of circuits and k is a whole number (k=0,1,2,3…). On the basis of these equations, for 14 stator magnets, there should be three resonant circuits, and so on.
The number of conducting plates of the collector distributor must be equal to the number of permanent magnets in the stator, and the axial lines of the dielectric gaps (10) between the plates must coincide with the axial lines of the permanent magnets. As can be seen from the voltage graph shown in Fig. 3, the way that each of the circuits is connected up in turn via the brushes connected to the rotor to the different-polarity collector plates as the rotor rotates creates alternating current in them, as a result of which current resonance occurs in the circuit, thus increasing the torque created by the motor. This effect is enhanced by the different number of loops in the coil windings.
The number of loops in the coils of the diametrically opposite electromagnets differs between them by 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 and in certain cases 1/4.
If, for example, in one of the pairs of series-wired coils, the number of loops is 128, the number in the second pair (diametrically opposite) must be 124, which is a ratio of 1/32, or 120 for a ratio of 1/16 and so on.
The rating of the capacitor (11) depends on the total inductance of the series-wired windings shunted by them.

Industrial applicability
Since the motor in accordance with the invention can achieve high torque for relatively low voltage supply rating, and is simple in design, it has a wide range of possible applications.
A prototype motor made in accordance with the invention, with the parameters:
diameter - 400 mm
weight - 16 kg
power - 5.5 kW
voltage - 48 V
creates torque of up to 500 Nm. The motor has 22 permanent magnets in the stator and five resonant circuits. The electromagnet windings are calculated for the ratio 1/16.

CLAIM
1. Electric motor, containing:
- a stator with a circular magnetic conductor, to which an even number of permanent magnets is attached at uniform pitch;
- a rotor, separated from the stator by an air gap and carrying electromagnets interacting with the permanent magnets in the stator;
- a distributing collector, fixed to the body of the stator and having current conducting plates round its circumference, connected at alternating polarity to a direct current supply and separated by dielectric gaps;
- brushes, connected to the rotor, able to contact the collector plates and connected to electromagnet coil windings, characterised in that the coil windings of adjacent electromagnets are connected in pairs in series aiding, and to the windings of the coils of a pair of diametrically opposite electromagnets in series opposing, with capacitors connected to the leads of the windings connected to the brushes to form resonant circuits, the number (n) of the permanent magnets of the stator and the number (m) of the resonant circuits being determined from the equations n=10+4k, m=2+k, where k is a whole number (k=0,1,2,3…), the number of plates in the distributing collector is equal to the number of magnets in the stator, and the axial lines of the dielectric gaps in the distributing collector are aligned along the axial lines of the permanent magnets of the stator.

Изобретение относится к устройству и способу для получения экстремально
коротковолнового УФ и мягкого рентгеновского излучения из плотной горячей плазмы
разрядов пинчевого типа. Область применений включает литографию, в частности, в
спектральном диапазоне около 13,5 нм и рентгеновскую микроскопию.
5 Известны устройство и способ для получения коротковолнового излучения из плазмы
цилиндрического z-пинча с ВЧ предионизацией [1]. Для данных устройства и способа
характерен большой, по сравнению с радиальным размером, осевой размер столба
горячей плазмы. Это определяет низкую эффективность использования цилиндрического z-
пинча в большинстве применений, для которых необходим квазиточечный источник
10 коротковолнового излучения. Кроме этого, диэлектрическая стенка разрядной камеры
подвержена воздействию мощных потоков излучения, что ограничивает ресурс устройства.
Этих недостатков лишены устройство и способ для получения коротковолнового
излучения на λ=13,5 нм с использованием плазменного фокуса [2]. В этом способе на
периферии разрядной зоны через отверстия в заземленном электроде осуществляют
15 предионизацию поверхности диэлектрической вставки между высоковольтным и
заземленным электродами, зажигают на ней разряд пинчевого типа, на финальной стадии
которого горячая плазма, являющаяся источником коротковолнового излучения,
формируется на центральной оси z в небольшой части разрядной зоны. Однако получение
высокой эффективности в данном способе может быть затруднено, поскольку
20 непосредственно в фокусе рассеивается малая часть энергии, вложенной в разряд. В
устройстве, реализующем данный способ, конфигурация электродов препятствует их
эффективному охлаждению, что ограничивает возможность повышения средней мощности
коротковолнового излучения при высокой частоте следования импульсов.
Частично этих недостатков лишен способ получения коротковолнового излучения из
25 плазмы газового разряда, заключающийся в зажигании псевдоискрового разряда пинчевого
типа с полым катодом [3]. Недостатком указанного способа и устройства для его
реализации является большая длина столба горячей плазмы и наличие полости в катоде,
снижающей эффективность его охлаждения.
Наиболее близким техническим решением, выбранным в качестве прототипа, является
зо устройство для получения коротковолнового излучения из плазмы газового разряда,
содержащее разрядную камеру с осесимметрично расположенными высоковольтным и
заземленным электродами с осевым отверстием в каждом и разделенными газовым
зазором, вакуумную камеру, соединенную с зоной разряда через осевое отверстие
заземленного электрода и систему формирования скользящего разряда, состоящую из
35 протяженного инициирующего электрода, покрытого диэлектрическим слоем, на котором
расположен поджигающий электрод [4]. В системе формирования скользящего разряда
диэлектрический слой покрывает наружную поверхность протяженного инициирующего
электрода и расположен в области, оптически не связанной с осью разрядной камеры,
один из электродов системы формирования скользящего разряда (совмещен с одним из
40 электродов разрядной камеры, при этом в устройство введен импульсный генератор со
скоростью нарастания выходного напряжения более 1011 B/c, вывод положительной
полярности которого соединен с инициирующим электродом, а вывод отрицательной
полярности импульсного генератора соединен с поджигающим электродом системы
формирования скользящего разряда.
45 Способ получения коротковолнового излучения из плазмы газового разряда
посредством указанного устройства заключается в предионизации газа в зоне разряда
между соосными высоковольтным и заземленным электродами, осуществляемой
излучением скользящего разряда по поверхности осесимметричного диэлектрического слоя
через осевое отверстие, выполненное в высоковольтном электроде, и зажигании разряда
50 пинчевого типа [4]. В указанном способе предыонизацию осуществляют одновременно
потоком излучения с длинами волн от УФ до рентгеновского диапазона и потоком
ускоренных электронов из плазмы импульсного скользящего разряда, зажигаемого в
области, не имеющей оптической связи с осью разряда пинчевого типа, при скорости

нарастания разрядного напряжения на нем, превышающей 10 В/с, при этом потоки
излучения и электронов формируют аксиально-симметричными и направляют во
внеосевую часть зоны разряда.
В прототипе достигаются высокие значения эффективности преобразования вложенной
5 в разряд электрической энергии в энергию коротковолнового излучения, средней мощности
и стабильности энергии коротковолнового излучения из газоразрядной плазмы.
Недостатками прототипа является сложность повышения яркости источника излучения и
его эффективности при малой длине столба горячей плазмы. Это является следствием
большого диаметра осевого отверстия высоковольтного электрода, которое необходимо
10 для осуществления предионизации, что не позволяет минимизировать размеры разрядной
плазмы и длину плазменного пинча. В прототипе геометрия системы формирования
скользящего разряда и высоковольтного электрода препятствует их эффективному
охлаждению, ограничивая повышение средней мощности коротковолнового излучения и
ресурс источника. Кроме этого, в прототипе при уменьшении межэлектродного расстояния
15 снижается устойчивость разряда пинчевого типа в режиме с высокой частотой следования
импульсов и, как следствие, уменьшается стабильность коротковолнового излучения от
импульсу к импульсу. Кроме этого, в прототипе, как и в других известных газоразрядных
излучателях, возможности охлаждения электродов ограничивают среднюю выходную
мощность коротковолнового излучения на уровне, недостаточном для индустриального
20 применения в ВУФ литографии на λ=13,5 нм.
Техническим результатом изобретения является повышение средней мощности
коротковолнового излучения горячей плазмы разряда при обеспечении ее малых размеров
и высокой яркости, увеличение времени жизни источника и повышение эффективности
преобразования вложенной в разряд электрической энергии в энергию коротковолнового
25 излучения при ее высокой стабильности от импульса к импульсу.
Указанная задача может быть осуществлена усовершенствованием устройства,
содержащего разрядную камеру с осесимметрично расположенными высоковольтным и
заземленным электродами с осевым отверстием в каждом и разделенными газовым
зазором, вакуумную камеру, соединенную с зоной разряда через осевое отверстие
30 заземленного электрода и систему формирования скользящего разряда, состоящую из
протяженного инициирующего электрода, покрытого диэлектрическим слоем, на котором
расположен поджигающий электрод.
Усовершенствование устройства состоит в том, что в заземленном электроде
выполнены каналы, соединяющие периферийную часть зазора, разделяющего
35 высоковольтный и заземленный электроды, с вакуумной камерой, в инициирующем
электроде системы формирования скользящего разряда выполнено осевое отверстие,
соединенное с одной стороны через сквозное отверстие высоковольтного электрода с
зоной разряда, а с другой стороны в нем установлен поджигающий электрод, при этом
диэлектрический слой размещен на внутренней поверхности осевого отверстия
40 инициирующего электрода.
Во внеосевой области разрядной камеры высоковольтный и заземленный электроды
могут быть отделены друг от друга щелевым зазором.
В одном из вариантов реализации устройства высоковольтный электрод в центральной
части имеет выступ, во внеосевой области разрядной камеры высоковольтный и
45 заземленный электроды отделены друг от друга осесимметричнои диэлектрической
вставкой, диэлектрическая вставка размещена вокруг выступа высоковольтного электрода,
причем осевой размер диэлектрической вставки не превосходит высоту выступа
высоковольтного электрода.
В устройство могут быть введены дополнительные разрядные камеры, идентичные
50 указанной, все камеры закреплены на валу с приводом вращения и размещены на
одинаковом расстоянии от оси вращения, при этом система формирования скользящего
разряда установлена на том же расстоянии от оси вращения вала, что и камеры.

посредством указанного устройства заключается в предыонизации газа в зоне разряда
между соосными высоковольтным и заземленным электродами, осуществляемой через
осевое отверстие высоковольтного электрода излучением скользящего разряда по
поверхности диэлектрического слоя на инициирующем электроде системы формирования
5 скользящего разряда и зажигании разряда пинчевого типа.
Усовершенствование способа состоит в том, что скользящий разряд зажигают внутри
инициирующего электрода системы формирования скользящего разряда и осуществляют
предионизацию приосевой части зоны разряда, затем в приосевой части зоны разряда
зажигают импульсный предразряд между высоковольтным и заземленным электродами, и
10 за счет скин-эффекта в импульсном предразряде формируют токовоплазменную оболочку
во внеосевой части зоны разряда, при этом осуществляют вакуумную откачку газа из
периферийной части зазора между высоковольтным и заземленным электродами.
Усовершенствование способа также состоит в том, что токовоплазменную оболочку
предразряда формируют на периферии зоны разряда, ограниченной щелевым зазором
15 между высоковольтным и заземленным электродами.
Отличие способа может состоять в том, что осуществляют зажигание одного из видов
разряда пинчевого типа, например, такого, как: плазменный фокус, z-пинч, разряд с
полым катодом, - с частотой повторения f=n·ν последовательно в каждой из n разрядных
камер при вращении с частотой ν вала с закрепленными на нем разрядными камерами.
20 Существо изобретения поясняется прилагаемыми чертежами.
На фиг.1 схематично изображено устройство получения коротковолнового излучения из
плазмы газового разряда; на фиг.2 - устройство с высоковольтным электродом, имеющим
выступ в центральной части, и с диэлектрической вставкой, введенной в разрядную
камеру; на фиг.З - устройство с n идентичными разрядными камерами, закрепленными на
25 валу, имеющем привод вращения.
Устройство содержит импульсный источник питания - 1, подключенный к системе
формирования скользящего разряда, состоящей из протяженного инициирующего
электрода - 2, внутренняя поверхность осевого отверстия в котором покрыта
диэлектрическим слоем - 3, и поджигающего электрода - 4, установленного в отверстии
30 инициирующего электрода - 2 на поверхности диэлектрического слоя - 3 (фиг.1).
Импульсный источник питания - 1 также подключен к высоковольтному электроду - 5 с
осевым отверстием - 6 и к заземленному электроду - 7 разрядной камеры - 8. При этом
инициирующий электрод - 2 системы формирования скользящего разряда подключен к
высоковольтному электроду - 5, а осевое отверстие инициирующего электрода - 2
35 соединено через сквозное отверстие - 6 высоковольтного электрода с зоной разряда. Во
внеосевой области разрядной камеры электроды - 5, 7 отделены друг от друга щелевым
зазором - 9. К разрядной камере - 8 подсоединена вакуумная камера - 10, соединенная с
зоной разряда через осевое отверстие заземленного электрода - 7. В заземленном
электроде - 7 выполнены каналы - 11, соединяющие вакуумную камеру с межэлектродным
40 пространством -12 на периферийной части разрядной камеры - 8. Разрядная камера также
содержит диэлектрическую прокладку - 13 и жидкостной охладитель - 14, циркулирующий
непосредственно в электродах или в контактирующих с ними металлических элементах
(фиг.1).
Высоковольтный электрод - 5 в центральной части имеет выступ - 15, во внеосевой
45 области разрядной камеры высоковольтный и заземленный электроды отделены друг от
друга осесимметричной диэлектрической вставкой - 16, которая размещена вокруг выступа
- 15 высоковольтного электрода - 5, причем осевой размер диэлектрической вставки не
превосходит высоту выступа на высоковольтном электроде (фиг.2).
На фиг.З устройство содержит n идентичных разрядных камер - 8, закрепленных на валу
50 - 17, соединенном с приводом вращения. Разрядные камеры размещены по периметру
окружности на одинаковом расстоянии от оси вращения вала - 17 и, в простейшем случае,
- с одинаковым расстоянием между соседними разрядными камерами. Оси разрядных
камер могут быть параллельны оси вала - 17 или быть расположены под углом к нему.

Представленный на фиг.З вариант устройства выполнен следующим образом.
Заземленные электроды - 7 n разрядных камер - 8 соединены между собой и закреплены
на валу металлическим диском - 18. Высоковольтные электроды - 5 n разрядных камер
соединены между собой через металлический высоковольтный диск - 19, посредством
5 которого они через вспомогательный вал - 20 и диэлектрическую втулку - 21 закреплены
на валу - 17. Импульсный источник питания - 1 подключен к заземленным электродам - 7
через коллектор - 22 и скользящий контакт - 23 и подключен к высоковольтным
электродам - 5 через высоковольтный коллектор - 24 и скользящий контакт - 25. Между
коллектором - 22 и высоковольтным коллектором - 24 размещена изолирующая прокладка -
10 26. Скользящие контакты могут быть выполнены жидкометаллическими, щеточными или
плазменными. В варианте устройства, представленного на фиг.З, скользящие контакты -
23, 25, выполнены плазменными в виде вспомогательных разрядных промежутков. В
коллекторах - 22, 24 выполнены каналы - 27, 28 подачи газа к плазменным скользящим
контактам - 23, 25. В поджигающем электроде - 2 системы формирования скользящего
15 разряда выполнено отверстие - 29 для подачи газа в разрядную камеру - 8. Устройство
также содержит герметичный корпус - 30, установленный на высоковольтном коллекторе -
24 с уплотнением - 31 пары вращательного движения на вспомогательном валу - 20. На
валу - 17 и на вспомогательном валу - 20 установлены коллекторы - 32, 33 подачи и
вывода охлаждающей жидкости - 14, также снабженные уплотнениями пары вращательного
20 движения. Система формирования скользящего разряда (фиг.З) установлена на том же
расстоянии от оси вала вращения, что и разрядные камеры. Она жестко закреплена на
корпусе с соблюдением соосности инициирующего электрода - 2 с заземленным и
высоковольтным электродами разрядных камер - 8 в момент их прохождения угловой
координаты, на которой установлена система формирования скользящего разряда.
25 Способ получения коротковолнового излучения из газоразрядной плазмы реализуют
следующим образом.
При включении импульсного источника питания - 1 импульс высокого напряжения
подают на систему формирования скользящего разряда, между электродами -2,4 которого
зажигается скользящий разряд по поверхности диэлектрического слоя - 3.
зо Коротковолновое излучение и пучок электронов из плазмы скользящего разряда
распространяются через осевое отверстие - 6 высоковольтного электрода - 5 в приосевую
часть зоны разряда, осуществляя в ней предионизацию газа. С помощью импульсного
источника питания - 1 производят зажигание импульсного предварительного разряда между
электродами - 5, 7 в приосевой части зоны разряда. При этом подачу газа или
35 парогазовой смеси в приосевую часть разрядной камеры - 8 осуществляют через
высоковольтный электрод - 5. В процессе импульсного предразряда за счет скин-эффекта
формируется расширяющаяся осесимметричная токовоплазменная оболочка, которая
выходит во внеосевую часть зоны разряда. Продвижение токовоплазменной оболочки
завершается у щелевого зазора - 9, препятствующего ее дальнейшему распространению и
40 ограничивающего разрядную область. Величину межэлектродного расстояния d, давление
р газа и значение (p·d) в щелевом зазоре устанавливают такой величины, чтобы
заряженные частицы, движущиеся в электрическом поле щелевого зазора, покидали его
без осуществления актов ионизации. За счет экспериментального выбора положения
щелевого зазора в разрядной камере достигается оптимальный для достижения
45 максимального кпд устройства размер токовоплазменной оболочки. При этом
токовоплазменная оболочка может частично заполнять щелевой зазор - 9, примерно на
величину зазора в осевом направлении. С помощью импульсного источника питания - 1
производят зажигание разряда пинчевого типа для осуществления сжатия созданной в
процессе предразряда токовоплазменной оболочки магнитным полем протекающего по ней
5o тока разряда пинчевого типа и ее удержание на оси зоны разряда в течение короткого
времени. Плазменный пинч, образующийся на оси зоны разряда, испускает
коротковолновое излучение. Используемую часть излучения выводят из зоны разряда
через осевое отверстие в заземленном электроде - 7 в вакуумную камеру - 10. Цикл

работы повторяют.
В процессе работы из щелевого зазора - 9 и периферийной части - 12 межэлектродного
пространства через каналы - 11 осуществляют непрерывную откачку газа в вакуумную
камеру - 10. За счет этого в разрядной камере создают перепад давления между зоной
5 разряда и периферийной частью - 12, в которой значения (p·d) обеспечивают достаточно малыми для осуществления вакуумной изоляции электродов - 5, 7 вне зоны разряда.
Снаружи периферийной части - 12 межэлектродного пространства изоляцию электродов -
5, 7 осуществляют посредством диэлектрической прокладки - 13, выполненной в виде
плоской шайбы, которая не подвержена воздействию потоков излучения из зоны разряда.
10 Охлаждение разрядной камеры в процессе работы производят жидкостным
охладителем - 14, циркулирующим через электроды.
В принципе, варьирование геометрии и размеров отдельных частей устройства (фиг.1,
фиг.2) позволяет производить зажигание различных видов видов разряда пинчевого типа,
например, таких, как: плазменный фокус, z-пинч, разряд с полым катодом, - и др.
15 При выполнении устройства с n (n>1) идентичными разрядными камерами - 8 (фиг.З)
производят их вращение с частотой ν вокруг оси вала - 17. Вращательный момент
передается на разрядные камеры - 8 через металлические диски - 18, 19,
вспомогательный вал - 20 и диэлектрическую втулку - 21. В момент совмещения оси одной
из n разрядных камер с осью системы формирования скользящего разряда производят
20 включение импульсного источника питания - 1, в результате чего происходит
последовательное зажигание скользящего разряда, предразряда и одного из видов
разряда пинчевого типа, горячая плазма которого импульсно излучает коротковолновое
излучение Электрический ток в разрядной камере протекает по электрической цепи,
включающей в себя импульсный источник питания - 1; высоковольтный коллектор - 24,
25 подключенный к высоковольтным электродам - 5 через скользящий контакт - 25 и
металлический диск - 19; коллектор - 22, подключенный к заземленным электродам - 7
через скользящий контакт - 23 и металлический диск - 18. В процессе работы газ подают
в разрядную камеру - 8 через отверстие - 29 в поджигающем электроде - 4, отверстие в
инициирующем электроде - 2, и отверстие - 6 в высоковольтном электроде. К плазменным
30 скользящим контактам - 23, 25 газ, который может отличаться от поступающего в
разрядную камеру, подают через каналы - 27, 28 в коллекторах - 22, 24. Герметичный
корпус - 30 с уплотнением - 31 на вспомогательном валу - 20 предотвращает попадание в
устройство атмосферного воздуха. Охлаждение разрядных камер в процессе работы
производят циркулирующим через металлические диски - 18, 19 жидкостным охладителем -
35 14, подачу и вывод которого осуществляют через коллекторы - 32, 33 на валах - 17, 20.
Цикл работы непрерывно повторяют последовательно в каждой из n разрядных камер в
момент совмещения оси следующей разрядной камеры с осью системы формирования
скользящего разряда. При этом частота повторения разрядных импульсов составляет
f=n·ν. В случае, когда разрядные камеры расположены с одинаковым расстоянием между
40 соседними разрядными камерами, а вращение осуществляют с неизменной частотой v,
частота повторения разрядных импульсов f также не меняется со временем. Выполнение
разрядных камер идентичными с размещением их и системы формирования скользящего
разряда на одинаковом расстоянии от оси вращения вала - 17 обеспечивает
энергетическую и позиционную стабильность источника коротковолнового излучения от
45 импульса к импульсу.
Вращение с частотой v закрепленных на валу n идентичных разрядных камер позволяет
устранить плавление электродов при значительном, в n раз увеличении вводимой в разряд
пинчевого типа электрической мощности. Это является результатом того, что при работе
устройства с частотой f=n·ν, каждая из n разрядных камер работает с пониженной в n раз
частотой f/n. В свою очередь, это позволяет в n раз увеличивать среднюю мощность
коротковолнового излучения. За счет этого достигается новое качество источника
излучения, а именно, возможность получения средней мощности коротковолнового
излучения, в частности на =13,5 нм, необходимой для индустриального применения в

литографии с разрешением <50 HM.
Вращающаяся система разрядных камер может быть использована с различными
модификациями разряда пинчевого типа, такими, как разряд с полым катодом, капилярный
разряд, плазменный фокус и др.
5 Выполнение системы формирования скользящего разряда в предложенном виде с
зажиганием разряда на внутренней поверхности осесимметричного диэлектрического слоя
обеспечивает ее более эффективное, по сравнению с прототипом, охлаждение. Все это
определяет возможность ее работы с более высокой частотой следования импульсов. В
предложенном устройстве и способе осуществляется предыонизация части зоны разряда с
10 уменьшенным радиальным размером, в результате чего предложенная конструкция
системы формирования скользящего разряда требует меньших энергозатрат. Кроме этого,
предионизация приосевой части зоны разряда позволяет минимизировать в
высоковольтном электроде диаметр отверстия, через которое осуществляется
предионизация. Это уменьшает длину плазменного пинча и протяженность разряда
15 пинчевого типа на его финальной стадии, увеличивая яркость источника и повышая его
эффективность.
Осуществление импульсного предразряда, в котором за счет скин-эффекта формируют
токовоплазменную оболочку во внеосевой части зоны разряда, увеличивает поперечный
размер разряда пинчевого типа при его зажигании. Это улучшает стабильность зажигания
20 разряда пинчевого типа и повышает кинетическую энергию плазмы на стадии ее сжатия
магнитным полем разряда, что обеспечивает более эффективный нагрев плазменного
пинча и повышение энергии коротковолнового излучения, а также его средней мощности в
импульсно-периодическом режиме.
Выполнение устройства с зоной разряда, ограниченной щелевым зазором - 9 между
25 электродами, и откачкой газа из периферийной части - 12 межэлектродного зазора через
каналы - 11 заземленного электрода позволяет существенно улучшить характеристики
излучателя. В отличие от аналогов и прототипа устраняется необходимость выполнения
электродов с экранами, защищающими диэлектрическую прокладку - 13 от излучения
разряда, но, вместе с тем, ухудшающими охлаждение электродов и увеличивающими
зо индуктивность разрядной камеры. За счет этого обеспечивается эффективное охлаждение
и надежная высокоресурсная изоляция электродов разрядной камеры, позволяющая
минимизировать ее индуктивность, что увеличивает выход коротковолнового излучения из
газоразрядной плазмы. Кроме того, осуществление вакуумной откачки снаружи щелевого
зазора - 9 обеспечивает через него дополнительный поток газа, который устраняет
35 застойные зоны и улучшает, по сравнению с прототипом, смену газа в зоне разряда, что
повышает устойчивость разряда пинчевого типа и позволяет увеличить частоту следования
импульсов.
Выполнение высоковольтного электрода с выступом - 15 в центральной части (фиг.2)
позволяет увеличить, примерно на величину выступа, длину токовоплазменной оболочки,
40 формируемой в процессе предразряда, что улучшает ее однородность и устойчивость в
режиме с высокой частотой следования импульсов. В свою очередь, это обеспечивает
устойчивость разряда пинчевого типа и улучшает стабильность энергии коротковолнового
излучения от импульса к импульсу.
Введение в разрядную камеру осесимметричной диэлектрической вставки - 16,
45 отделяющей друг от друга высоковольтный и заземленный электроды во внеосевой
области разрядной камеры (фиг.2), обеспечивает фиксированное положение
токовоплазменной оболочки на поверхности диэлектрической вставки при зажигании
разряда пинчевого типа. Это также повышает устойчивость разряда пинчевого типа с
малым межэлектродным расстоянием и улучшает стабильность энергии коротковолнового
50 излучения от импульса к импульсу. Размещение диэлектрической вставки вокруг выступа
высоковольтного электрода и выполнение осевого размера диэлектрической вставки, не
превосходящей высоту выступа, позволяет разместить диэлектрическую вставку в области,
оптически не связанной с зоной образования плазменного пинча, и защитить ее от мощных

потоков излучения. Это обеспечивает надежное долговременное функционирования
источника коротковолнового излучения при высокой частоте следования импульсов.
Таким образом, предлагаемые устройство и способ позволяют повысить среднюю
мощность коротковолнового излучения горячей плазмы разряда при уменьшении ее
5 размеров, увеличить время жизни источника, повысить его эффективность и яркость при
увеличении стабильности энергии коротковолнового излучения.

The invention relates to a device and method for producing extremely short-wave UV radiation and soft Roentgen radiation from dense hot pinch-type plasma discharges. The field of application includes lithography, in particular in the spectral band around 13.5 nm, and X-ray microscopy.
There are a known device and method for producing short-wave radiation from a cylindrical z-pinch plasma with high-frequency pre-ionisation [1]. A characteristic of the device and method in question is the large axial dimension of the hot plasma column by comparison with the radial dimension. This makes it inefficient to use cylindrical z-pinch in most applications, for which a quasi-point short-wave radiation source is required. Furthermore, the dielectric wall of the discharge chamber is subject to the effect of powerful radiation fluxes, which limits the life of the device.
These disadvantages do not apply to the device and method for producing short-wave radiation at λ=13.5 nm using plasma focus [2]. In this method, the pre-ionisation of the surface of the dielectric insert takes place at the periphery of the discharge zone through apertures in the earthed electrode, between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes, and a pinch-type discharge is ignited on it, at the final stage of which hot plasma, which is a source of short-wave radiation, is formed on the central axis z in a small part of the discharge zone. However, it can be difficult to obtain high efficiency in this method, since a small part of the energy going into the discharge is dispersed directly in the focus. In the device used for this method, the configuration of the electrodes makes it difficult to cool them efficiently, which limits the possibility of raising the average power of short-wave radiation for high pulse succession frequency.
These disadvantages are partly overcome by the method of obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma, consisting of igniting a pinch-type pseudo-spark discharge with a hollow cathode [3]. A problem with this method and the device for implementing it is the great length of the hot plasma column, and the presence of the cavity in the cathode, which reduces the efficiency of its cooling.
The closest technical solution, selected as the prior art, is a device for producing short-wave radiation from gas-discharge plasma with axisymmetric disposition of the high-voltage and earthed electrodes with an axial aperture in each of them, separated by a gas clearance, a vacuum chamber connected to the discharge zone through the axial aperture in the earthed electrode, and a sliding-discharge forming system consisting of an elongated initiating electrode coated with a dielectric layer, on which the igniting electrode is located [4]. In the sliding-discharge forming system, the dielectric layer covers the external surface of the elongated initiating electrode, and is located in a region not optically connected to the axis of the discharge chamber. One of the electrodes of the sliding-discharge forming system is combined with one of the electrodes of the discharge chamber. The device includes a pulse generator with an output voltage build-up rate of more than 1011 V/sec, the positive-polarity output lead of which is connected to the initiating electrode, while the negative-polarity output lead of the pulse generator is connected to the igniting electrode of the sliding-discharge forming system.
The method of obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma by means of this device consists of the pre-ionisation of the gas in the discharge zone between the co-axial high-voltage and earthed electrodes. This is done by radiation of the sliding discharge along the surface of the axisymmetric dielectric layer through an axial aperture in the high-voltage electrode, and igniting the pinch-type discharge [4]. In this method, pre-ionisation is done simultaneously by a radiation flux with wavelengths from the UV to the X-ray and by a flux of accelerated electrons from the pulse sliding-discharge plasma, ignited in a region having no optical connection with the pinch-type discharge axis at a discharge voltage build-up rate on it exceeding 1011 V/sec. The radiation and electron fluxes which are formed are axisymmetric and are directed into the extra-axial part of the discharge zone.
The prior art achieves high efficiency in the conversion of the electricity in the discharge into short-wave radiation energy from gas-discharge plasma which is of average power and stability.
The disadvantage of the prior art is the complexity of raising the brightness and efficiency of the radiation source for a small length of hot plasma column. This is a result of the large diameter of the axial aperture in the high-voltage electrode, which is required for pre-ionisation; therefore the dimensions of the discharge plasma and the length of the plasma pinch cannot be minimised. In the prior art, the geometry of the sliding discharge forming system and the high-voltage electrode prevents them being effectively cooled, limiting the rise in average power of short-wave radiation and the life of the source. Furthermore, in the prior art, as the inter-electrode distance decreases, so does the stability of the pinch-type discharge in the high-frequency pulse succession regime, leading to a reduction in the stability of the short-wave radiation from pulse to pulse. Also, in the prior art, as in other known gas discharge radiators, the difficulty of cooling the electrodes limits the average output power of the short-wave radiation to a level insufficient for industrial applications in high-frequency ultraviolet lithography at λ=13.5 nm.
The technical result of the invention is a rise in the average power of short-wave radiation of the hot plasma discharge, keeping it compact and of high brightness, increasing the life of the source and the efficiency of conversion of the electricity introduced into the discharge into short-wave radiation energy, and keeping it stable from pulse to pulse.
This problem can be solved by improving a device including a discharge chamber with the axisymmetric high-voltage and earthed electrodes with an axial aperture in each of them, separated by a gas clearance, a vacuum chamber connected to the discharge zone through the axial aperture in the earthed electrode, and a sliding discharge forming system consisting of an elongated initiating electrode coated in a dielectric layer, with the igniting electrode located on it.
The improvement to the device consists of channels made in the earthed electrode, connecting the peripheral part of the clearance separating the high-voltage and earthed electrodes to the vacuum chamber. There is an axial aperture in the initiating electrode of the sliding discharge forming system, connected on one side via the through aperture in the high-voltage electrode to the discharge zone, and on the other side containing the igniting electrode. The dielectric layer is on the internal surface of the axial aperture in the initiating electrode.
Outside the axial region of the discharge chamber, the high-voltage and earthed electrodes can be separated from each other by a slit clearance.
In one variant of the device, the high-voltage electrode has a projection in the central part. The high-voltage and earthed electrodes are separated from each other outside the axial region of the discharge chamber by an axisymmetric dielectric insert located round the projection of the high-voltage electrode. The axial dimension of the dielectric insert does not exceed the height of the projection on the high-voltage electrode.
The device may contain additional discharge chambers, identical to the one described. All the chambers may be fixed on a shaft with a rotary drive, and located equidistantly from the axis of rotation. The system forming the sliding discharge is fitted at the same distance from the axis of rotation of the shaft as the chambers.
The method for obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma by means of the described device consists of the pre-ionisation of the gas in the discharge zone between the co-axial high-voltage and earthed electrodes, conducted through the axial aperture in the high-voltage electrode by the sliding-discharge radiation on the surface of the dielectric layer on the initiating electrode of the system forming the sliding discharge, and igniting the pinch-type discharge.
The improvement to the method consists of the following: the sliding discharge is ignited inside the initiating electrode of the sliding discharge forming system, and pre-ionisation of the part of the discharge zone adjacent to the axis is carried out. A pulse pre-discharge is then ignited in this zone between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes, and by means of the skin effect in the pulse pre-discharge, a current-plasma shell is formed in the part of the discharge zone outside the axis, while vacuum-pumping the gas from the peripheral part of the clearance between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes.
Another improvement to the method is that the current-plasma shell of the pre-discharge is formed at the peripheral discharge zone bounded by the slit clearance between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes.
The process may be characterised in that the ignition is applied to one of the forms of pinch-type discharge - such as plasma focus, z-pinch, or hollow-cathode discharge - at a repetition frequency of f=n·ν successively in each of n discharge chambers for rotation at frequency ν of the shaft with the discharge chambers fixed to it.
The subject of the invention is explained by the attached drawings.
Fig. 1 schematically shows a device for producing short-wave radiation from gas-discharge plasma; Fig. 2 shows a device with a high-voltage electrode having a projection in the central part, and with a dielectric insert introduced into the discharge chamber; and Fig. 3 shows a device with n identical discharge chambers fixed to a shaft with a rotary drive.
The device contains a pulse supply source (1) connected to the sliding discharge forming system, consisting of an elongated initiating electrode (2), the internal surface of the axial aperture in which is coated with a dielectric layer (3), and an igniting electrode (4) fitted in the aperture in the initiating electrode (2) on the surface of the dielectric layer (3) (Fig. 1). The pulse supply source (1) is also connected to a high-voltage electrode (5) with an axial aperture (6) and to the earthed electrode (7) of the discharge chamber (8). The initiating electrode (2) of the sliding discharge forming system is also connected to the high-voltage electrode (5), and the axial aperture of the initiating electrode (2) is connected via the through aperture (6) of the high-voltage electrode to the discharge zone. In the region outside the axis of the discharge chamber, the electrodes (5, 7) are separated from each other by a slit clearance (9). A vacuum chamber (10) is connected to the discharge chamber and also to the discharge zone via the axial aperture in the earthed electrode (7). The earthed electrode (7) has channels (11) connecting the vacuum chamber to the inter-electrode space (12) at the peripheral part of the discharge chamber (8). The discharge chamber also contains a dielectric lining (13) and liquid coolant (14) circulating directly in the electrodes or in metal elements in contact with them (Fig. 1).
The high-voltage electrode (5) has a projection (15) in the central part. In the region of the discharge chamber outside the axis, the high-voltage and earthed electrodes are separated from each other by an axisymmetric dielectric insert (16) round the projection (15) of the high-voltage electrode (5). The axial dimension of the dielectric insert does not exceed the height of the projection on the high-voltage electrode (Fig. 2).
Fig.3 shows a device containing n identical discharge chambers (8) fixed on a shaft (17) connected to a rotary drive. The discharge chambers are located in a circle round the perimeter, equidistant from the axis of rotation of the shaft (17), and in the simplest case, also equidistant from each other. The axes of the discharge chambers may be parallel to the axis of the shaft (17), or may be at an angle to it. The variant of the device shown in Fig. 3 is made in the following manner. The earthed electrodes (7) of the n discharge chambers (8) are connected to each other, and are attached to the shaft by a metal disc (18). The high-voltage electrodes (5) of the n discharge chambers are connected to each other by a high-voltage metal disc (19) by which they are attached to the shaft (17) via an auxiliary shaft (20) and a dielectric bush (21). The pulse supply source (1) is connected to the earthed electrodes (7) via a collector (22) and a sliding contact (23), and to the high-voltage electrodes (5) via a high-voltage collector (24) and a sliding contact (25). An insulating lining (26) is fitted between the collector (22) and the high-voltage collector (24). The sliding contacts may be molten-metal type, brush-type or plasma-type. In the variant of the device shown in Fig. 3, the sliding contacts (23, 25) are plasma-type, in the form of auxiliary discharge gaps. The collectors (22, 24) contain channels (27, 28) to supply gas to the plasma sliding contacts (23, 25). There is an aperture (29) in the igniting electrode (2) of the sliding discharge forming system to supply gas to the discharge chamber (8). The device also includes a seal body (30) mounted on the high-voltage collector (24) with a seal (31) for the rotary-motion pair on the auxiliary shaft (20). Collectors (32, 33) to supply and take away liquid coolant (14) are fitted on the shaft (17) and the auxiliary shaft (20). These also have rotary-motion pair seals. The sliding discharge forming system (Fig. 3) is fitted at the same distance from the axis as the discharge chambers. It is fixed to the body so that the initiating electrode (2) remains co-axial with the earthed and high-voltage electrodes of the discharge chambers (8) at the moment when they pass the angular coordinate at which the sliding discharge forming system is fitted.
The method of obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma is implemented as follows.
When the pulse supply source (1) is switched on, a high-voltage pulse is supplied to the sliding discharge forming system, between the electrodes (2, 4) of which a sliding discharge is ignited along the surface of the dielectric layer (3). The short-wave radiation and a beam of electrons from the sliding discharge plasma proceed out through the axial aperture (6) of the high-voltage electrode (5) into the part of the discharge zone adjacent to the axis, where pre-ionisation of the gas takes place. By means of the pulse supply source (1), the preliminary pulse discharge between the electrodes (5, 7) in the part of the discharge zone adjacent to the axis is ignited. The supply of gas or vapour-gas mixture to the part of the discharge chamber (8) adjacent to the axis is done via the high-voltage electrode (5). In the course of pulse pre-discharge, due to skin effect, an expanding axisymmetric current-plasma shell is formed, which extends out into the part of the discharge zone outside the axis. The current-plasma shell moves along in the slit clearance (9), which prevents it spreading further, and limits the discharge region. The values for the inter-electrode distance d, the gas pressure p and the value p·d are set so that the charged particles moving in the electrical field of the slit clearance leave it without ionisation acts taking place. By experimental selection of the position of the slit clearance in the discharge chamber, the optimum dimension of the current-plasma shell for maximum efficiency of the device is achieved. The current-plasma shell may partly fill the slit clearance (9) roughly to the extent of the clearance in the axial direction. By means of the pulse supply source (1), a pinch-type discharge is ignited to bring about the compression of the current-plasma shell created in the pre-discharge process by the magnetic field of the pinch-type discharge current passing along it, holding it on the axis of the discharge zone for a short time. The plasma pinch, forming on the axis of the discharge zone, produces short-wave radiation. The part of the radiation being used is taken out of the discharge zone through the axial aperture in the earthed electrode (7) into the vacuum chamber (10). The cycle of operations is repeated.
In the course of operation, gas is continuously pumped into the vacuum chamber (10) from the slit clearance (9) and the peripheral part (12) of the inter-electrode space through the channels (11). Because of this, a pressure difference is created in the discharge chamber between the discharge zone and the peripheral part (12), in which the (p·d) values are kept quite small for the vacuum insulation of the electrodes (5, 7) outside the discharge zone. Outside the peripheral part (12) of the inter-electrode space, the insulation of the electrodes (5, 7) is achieved by the dielectric lining (13), which is in the form of a flat disc not subjected to the action of the radiation fluxes from the discharge zone.
The cooling of the discharge chamber in operation is done by liquid coolant (14), circulating through the electrodes.
In principle, varying the geometry and dimensions of the separate parts of the device (Fig. 1, Fig. 2) makes it possible to carry out the ignition of various forms of pinch-type discharge, such as plasma focus, z-pinch, hollow-cathode discharge and others.
For a device with n (n>1) identical discharge chambers (8) (Fig. 3), the chambers are rotated at a frequency ν round the axis of the shaft (17). Torque is transmitted to the discharge chambers (8) through the metal discs (18, 19), the auxiliary shaft (20) and the dielectric bush (21). At the moment of alignment of the axis of one of the n discharge chambers with the axis of the sliding discharge forming system, the pulse supply source (1) is switched on, causing the successive ignition of the sliding discharge, pre-discharge and one of the pinch-type discharges, the hot plasma of which radiates short-wave radiation in pulses. The electric current in the discharge chamber runs through an electrical circuit including the pulse supply source (1); a high-voltage collector (24), connected to the high-voltage electrodes (5) via a sliding contact (25) and a metal disc (19); the collector (22), connected to the earthed electrodes (7) through a sliding contact (23) and a metal disc (18). In operation, gas is supplied to the discharge chamber (8) through the aperture (29) in the igniting electrode (4), the aperture in the initiating electrode (2), and the aperture (6) in the high-voltage electrode. The gas, which may be different from that entering the discharge chamber, is supplied to the plasma sliding contacts (23, 25) via flow channels (27, 28) in the collectors (22, 24). The sealed body (30) with its seal (31) on the auxiliary shaft (20) prevents atmospheric air entering the device. In the course of operation, the discharge chambers are cooled by liquid coolant (14) circulating through the metal discs (18, 19), the supply and removal of which takes place through the collectors (32, 33) on the shafts (17, 20). The cycle of operation is continuously repeated successively in each of the n discharge chambers at the moment of alignment of the axis of each discharge chamber in succession with the axis of the sliding discharge forming system. The frequency of repetition of the discharge pulses in such operation is f=n·ν. In the case in which the discharge chambers are located equidistantly between the adjacent discharge chambers, and the rotation is at constant revs ν, the frequency of repetition of the discharge pulses f does not change with time either. Making the discharge chambers identical and locating them and the sliding discharge forming system equidistantly from the axis of rotation of the shaft (17) ensures energy and position stability of the short-wave radiation source from pulse to pulse.
The rotation at frequency ν of the n identical discharge chambers fixed on the shaft enables melting of the electrodes to be prevented, with a considerable n-fold increase in power of the energy introduced into the pinch-type discharge. This is a result of the fact that for operating the device at frequency f=n·ν, each of the n discharge chambers operates at a frequency f/n reduced by a factor of n. In turn, this enables the average short-wave radiation power to be increased n-fold. This achieves a new quality of the radiation source, namely the possibility of obtaining the average short-wave radiation power, in particular at λ=13.5 nm, necessary for industrial application in lithography with a resolution of ≤50 nm.
The rotating system of discharge chambers can be used with various modifications of the pinch-type discharge, such as discharge with hollow cathode, capillary discharge, plasma focus, etc.
Producing the sliding discharge forming system in the proposed form with discharge ignition on the internal surface of the axisymmetric dielectric layer gives more efficient cooling than the prior art. All this makes it possible for it to operate at a higher pulse succession frequency. The proposed device and method employ pre-ionisation of the part of the discharge zone with decreased diameter, so that the proposed design of the sliding discharge forming system requires less energy. Furthermore, pre-ionisation of the part of the discharge zone adjacent to the axis enables the diameter of the aperture in the high-voltage electrode through which pre-ionisation takes place to be minimised. This decreases the length of the plasma pinch and the length of the pinch-type discharge in its final stage, increasing the brightness of the source and making it more efficient.
Using pulse pre-discharge, in which a current-plasma shell is formed in the part of the discharge zone outside the axis by skin effect, increases the transverse dimension of the pinch-type discharge when it is ignited. This improves the stability of ignition of the pinch-type discharge, and raises the kinetic energy of the plasma at this stage of its compression by the magnetic field of the discharge, providing more efficient heating of the plasma pinch, and increasing the short-wave radiation energy, and also its average power in pulse-periodic regime.
The provision of a discharge zone bounded by the slit clearance (9) between the electrodes, and pumping out the gas from the peripheral part (12) of the inter-electrode clearance through the channels (11) of the earthed electrode a enable the performance of the radiator to be improved considerably. Unlike the analogues and prior art, there is no need to provide the electrodes with screens to protect the dielectric lining (13) from discharge radiation, which has the disadvantages of poorer cooling of the electrodes and higher inductance of the discharge chamber. Because of this, the cooling is more efficient, and the long-lasting insulation of the discharge chamber electrodes is more reliable, so that its inductance can be minimised, which increases the output of short-wave radiation from the gas discharge plasma. Furthermore, the vacuum pumping takes place outside the slit clearance (9) providing an additional flow of gas through it, which eliminates dead zones and provides better gas exchange in the discharge zone than the prior art, which makes the pinch-type discharge more stable, and enables the pulse succession frequency to be increased.
The projection (15) in the central part of the high-voltage electrode enables the length of the current-plasma shell formed in the pre-discharge process to be increased, roughly by the extent of the projection, which makes it more homogeneous and stable in high-frequency pulse succession regime. This in turn keeps the pinch-type discharge stable, and improves the stability of the short-wave radiation energy from pulse to pulse.
The introduction into the discharge chamber of the axisymmetric dielectric insert (16) separating the high-voltage and earthed electrodes from each other in the region of the discharge chamber outside the axis (Fig. 2) gives a fixed position of the current-plasma shell on the surface of the dielectric insert when the pinch-type discharge is ignited. This also improves the stability of the pinch-type discharge where the inter-electrode distance is small, and also the stability of the short-wave radiation energy from pulse to pulse. Placing the dielectric insert round the projection of the high-voltage electrode, with the axial dimensions of the dielectric insert not exceeding the height of the projection, enables the dielectric insert to be placed in a region not optically connected to the plasma pinch deformation zone, and protects it from powerful radiation fluxes. This ensures reliable long-term functioning of the short-wave radiation source for high pulse succession frequency.
Thus, the proposed device and method make it possible to increase the average power of the short-wave radiation of the hot plasma in the discharge, while reducing its dimensions, increasing the active time of the source, improving its efficiency and brightness, and increasing the stability of the short-wave radiation energy.

1. Device for obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma, comprising a discharge chamber with axisymmetric location of high-voltage and earthed electrodes with axial aperture in each, separated by a gas clearance, a vacuum chamber connected to the discharge zone via the axial aperture in the earthed electrode, and a sliding discharge forming system, consisting of an elongated initiating electrode coated with a dielectric layer, having an igniting electrode on it, characterised in that the earthed electrode has channels connecting the peripheral part of the clearance separating the high-voltage and earthed electrodes to the vacuum chamber, the initiating electrode of the sliding discharge forming system has an axial aperture in it, connected on one side via the through aperture of the high-voltage electrode, and on the other side containing the igniting electrode; the dielectric layer is located on the internal surface of the axial aperture in the initiating electrode.
2. Device for obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma in accordance with claim 1, characterised in that in the region of the discharge chamber outside the axis, the high-voltage and earthed electrodes are separated from each other by a slit clearance.

Device for obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma in accordance with claim 1, characterised in that the high-voltage electrode has a projection in the central part, the high-voltage and earthed electrodes in the region of the discharge chamber outside the axis are separated from each other by an axisymmetric dielectric insert, the said insert being located round the projection of the high-voltage electrode; the axial dimension of the dielectric insert does not exceed the height of the projection of the high-voltage electrode.
4. Device for obtaining short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma in accordance with any of claims 1-3, characterised in that it includes additional discharge chambers, identical to the one described, all chambers being fixed on a shaft with rotary drive, and all at the same distance from the axis of rotation; the sliding discharge forming system is fitted at the same distance from the axis of rotation of the shaft as the chambers.
5. Method for producing short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma by means of the device described in any of claims 1-4, involving pre-ionising the gas in the discharge zone between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes, this being done through the axial aperture in the high-voltage electrode by sliding discharge radiation along the surface of the dielectric layer on the initiating electrode of the sliding discharge forming system, and igniting the pinch-type discharge, characterised in that the sliding discharge is ignited inside the initiating electrode of the sliding discharge forming system; the part of the discharge zone adjacent to the axis is pre-ionised, after which a pulse pre-discharge is ignited in the part of the zone adjacent to the axis between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes; a current-plasma shell is formed by the skin effect in the pulse pre-discharge in the part of the discharge zone outside the axis; and gas is vacuum-pumped from the peripheral part of the clearance between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes.
6. Method for producing short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma by means of the device described in claim 2, characterised in that a current-plasma pre-discharge shell is formed at the periphery of the discharge zone, bounded by the slit clearance between the high-voltage and earthed electrodes.
7. Method for producing short-wave radiation from gas discharge plasma by means of the device described in claim 4, characterised in that the ignition is carried out by one of the pinch-type forms of discharge, e.g. plasma focus, z-pinch or hollow cathode discharge, with repetition frequency f=n·ν in each of n discharge chambers in succession, for rotation at frequency ν of the shaft with the discharge chambers fixed on it.

Мне теперь не понять, кто же прав был из нас,
в наших спорах без сна и покоя.
Мне не стало хватать его только сейчас,
когда он не вернулся из боя.

Он молчал невпопад и не в такт подпевал,
он всегда говорил про другое,
Он мне спать не давал, он с восходом вставал,
а вчера не вернулся из боя.

То, что пусто теперь, не про то разговор:
Вдруг заметил я – нас было двое...

HE DIDN’T RETURN FROM THE BATTLE

Why is everything wrong? Yet it seems just as fine:
The same sky, just as blue as before;
The same air, the same water, same forest of pine -
But he didn't come back from the war.

Who was right, who was wrong, I have no idea now,
In our ongoing quarrels and faction.
They wearied me then, now I long for a row,
Since he's been posted missing in action.

He'd go suddenly quiet. He would sing out of tune,
And his voice had a harsh kind of rattle.
He would keep me awake, then he'd get up too soon -
But he didn't return from the battle.

The loneliness isn't just all it's about.
I've just realised, we two made a pair.
It's as if the wind suddenly blew the fire out,
Now I know that he's no longer there.

With the spring blooming out now, in colourful riot,
I called him this morning, forgetting.
"Hey, leave me a dog-end!" No answer. Dead quiet -
For he didn't come back from the fighting.

Our dead will not leave us behind in the lurch.
The fallen still guard us forever.
The trees reach aloft like the nave of a church -
But my friend will return to me never.

There is plenty of room in the dugout below,
But it's time for us both now to yield.
I've the place to myself, yet I feel that I know
It is I who was killed in that field.

Experience: After a three-year apprenticeship in aeronautical engineering in the Royal Air Force, I worked in this field for a few years then went on a one-year course to learn Russian at service linguist schools. After a little over two years serving in Hongkong on Russian monitoring work, I was sent by the RAF to London University for a further one-year Russian course, graduating with the Civil Service Interpreter certificate. I continued the Russian work in the RAF for several years, then I left to go to GCHQ at Cheltenham, doing similar work therefor another two years. After that, I worked at BBC Monitoring at Caversham, Reading, as a Russian monitor, later as Assistant Chief Monitor (27 years there altogether). This involved transcribing Moscow Radio and TASS news items, talks, features etc., including not only political material but also a wide range of technical subjects. I researched the subjects of metallurgy, shipping and shipbuilding, agriculture and the oil and gas industry to produce glossaries for use by the team. In the last few years, I was mainly concerned with the monitoring of Soviet television, training monitors in this subject and producing training material and reference files, as well as monitoring the programmes myself.
I have been doing freelance translations for many years. My main customer up to now has been Derwent Publications Ltd., for whom I produced abstracts of Russian patent specifications. However, this firm is now using English-language abstracts provided by the Russian patent office, so I now only work for them from German, but I prefer not to work from German other than this. I have also worked for Allerton Press Inc. (USA), making cover-to-cover translations of a Russian scientific journal (Elektrotekhnika); indirectly (subcontracted by a Professor of Physics at Oxford) for Plenum Publishing Co. (USA); and for the British Standards Institution translating Soviet state standards (GOSTs). I have recently translated several long articles from scientific journals for the British Ministry of Defence, Defence Research Agency and Defence Research Information Centre. I have also done work for a large number of translation agencies and direct clients.
