I have been working in Barcelona as a legal translator for 2 years now and am just about to finish a second degree.
I also have nearly three years' experience as a translator and proofreader working for two companies in Barcelona (Discobole and Manners), translating general texts, including many related to tourism and Catalonia.
My speciality in my second degree course is legal and economic translation and I am currently completing additional credits to be awarded the full degree.
For my 'in situ' correcting and translation jobs I am paid by the hour, but for work for agencies I charge around €0.05 per word, depending on the degree of speciality of the text. For work for end clients around €0.06.
I admit I do not have a great deal of experience but I am working and trying to gain that experience.
As far as my degrees are concerned, I was awarded a 2:1 BA with combined honours in Spanish and French by Exeter University in July 2003, a degree during which I also had the opportunity to study Catalan. My current degree is in Translation and Interpreting at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and I merely have to complete some free-choice credits to be awarded the degree (French and English into Spanish). |
