Everyone's coming up with really good ideas, but my reaction was: Huh? What on earth is a "long-sleeved chair"?!!! Just FYI, from a native US speaker.

deep armchair

This is what came to mind when I saw the question (I see lots of different types of chairs, chaise longues, loveseats and sofas; my husband owns and operates an upholstery shop). Your context should help you: is he sitting before a fire in the drawing room, or before a campfire?

However if there is a possibility that this text was originally Chinese, I would go with Mr. Yang's proposal.

agree Peter Enright : Does one subside into a chair? One would have said 'slumping', 'relaxing', 'falling', 'lapsing' or other synonym based on context. Yes, I suspect this is a long-armed chair, for which 'deep' is a good translation. Can we be sure it is an armchair though?
