I have a friend whose last name is Stier. His ancestors are from Denmark. What does the word STIER mean in English?

As in the trail along the river. Stier would be plural, singular a trail / en sti.

Stier is the plural of Sti, which means
1) a narrow roadway for foot, bicycle or equestrian use, or 2) an enclosure for small animals: svinesti = pigsty.
Currently there is ONE person in the Copenhagen phone book by that name.
