Hi, could someone help me out with the abovementioned term, please? I think it's got something to do with an oil filter but I'm not sure!

§2. Si l’équipement frigorifique est pourvu d’une résistance de carter ou de tout autre système permettant de désorber l’agent réfrigérant dissous dans l’huile, le technicien frigoriste spécialisé utilise ce système avant d’entreprendre la vidange de l’équipement.

I feel sure this is some kind of electric heating element used to warm the oil so the bubbles of dissolved refrigerant boil off.

There are several possibilities for "carter", "sump" is of course a general term, but likely to be appropriate in connection with oil collecting at a low point; however, the exact form, placement, and construction of this "carter" might affect the final translation required.
