Phrase features in a "Contrat de Services Distincts", generally speaking a partnership agreement, between two companies. One company party is referred to throughout as "La Catégorie" and the other as "Le Fournisseur" (The Supplier). The purpose of the agreement sets out the terms for services that "La Catégorie" will provide to The Supplier.

This term seems to be a legal one in this context which could be used for any company providing these services, rather than a term used in connection with the particular "supplying" company in this contract. That said, I can't seem to find similar use of it anywhere. My only (imperfect) suggestion so far is something like "The Subject" since the services that this company will provide are the main focus of the contract.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I came across "Category Management" which is to do with the supplying of products to supermarkets among other businesses. There is such as thing as a "Category Captain" which is basically in the eyes of the supermarket a leading brand/supplier in a particular product category. You also have "Category Managers" who are based in supermarkets and other similar stores who manage things at the distributor/retail end. Since "La Catégorie" is a supermarket within a larger group of supermarkets, I am going to choose either "Category Manager" or just plain "Category". Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Robert - I don't think so, since the companies involved in the non-technical contract are supermarkets and their product suppliers, but can you point me in the direction of this definition? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the speedy replies from you both. Yes looks like I'll have to go back to the client. Perhaps its an internally-used phrase they've decided to put amongst the legalese, just to keep things interesting. Will leave this question open until tomorrow just in case.

Nothing follows Catégorie - that's the problem. There is only text at the beginning saying "henceforth X company will be referred to as "La Categorie". I don't think it can be translated as "category", "type" or anything similar.

Don't bother looking up "contrat de services distincts". "Service distincts" is taken from an Article (L.441-7-I) in the French "Code du Commerce" and refers to services that are seen as distinct from those which normally feature in a "contrat de cooperation" and which, according to legal advice I found, should be covered by a separate contract and thus "contrat de services distincts".

Appears to be written by a native speaker. Context doesn't seem to help that much in this case, but...

"Ce contrat de services distincts a pour objet de fixer...les modalites de realisation des prestations de services distincts par la Categorie..."

Asker: Have had a skim through these docs, but I don't get the sense that a company could be a "category" in this context. Also this field seems a bit too technical in comparison to the content and subject area of the contract.
