That's the name. For something to be an ether, it has to have two
alkyl groups. In this case diethyl (2 ethyls).

welcome, La. Yes, you will find ehtyl ehter on Google, but that is not the standard chemical name. Of course, if as translators, we are obligated to be faithful to the letter (and not its correctness) then
ethyl ether will be the translation (which is what the Spanish says), but then it will not be exactly correct according to chemical nomenclature rules.

you can come, and that's pretty good, is what has been suggested by Carlos (an ethyl ether soluble substance). It does not seem that this one has an acronym. Ether extractable substances has (EESs), and if it's extractable, then it's soluble, but I don't think you have to worry about the acronym, (after all it does not exist in English, apparelty). If you make it up (ESS), it will imply something else (which is accepted), having to do with erythrocytes (red blood cells).
In Spanish the term is quite clear, and there's even an acronym for it (S.S.E.E.) but it doesn't seem to be one in english, though.
I think it is best to translate it as "ethyl ether" and then in parenthesis put (diethyl ether). Diethyl ether is the better choice scientifically speaking, but if the original says "ethyl ether", then I think we should stay as close to it as possible. I don't think we, as translators, are to correct things without making a note of it, such as writing "ethyl ether (diethyl ether), in this case.
