Vanuit het ergotherapeutisch onderzoek blijkt dat er bij X sprake lijkt te zijn van een lage basisarousal (verlaagd activatieniveau). Kinderen die hier last van hebben zijn sneller verveeld, zoeker sneller uitdaging en enge situaties op en zijn minder gevoelig voor straf. Het is mogelijk dat de lage basisarousal bijdraagt aan het uitdagende en agressieve gedrag van X.
