Good morning,
I am translating a legal document and I am not sure about the translation of this sentence.
Context:
"Yo, [name], Notario del Ilustre Colegio de Valencia, con residencia en esta villa, como sustituto de mi compañero de residencia, [name] por imposibilidad física del mismo y para su libro indicador".
Do you think that "in my residence, acting on behalf of my partner" would be a good translation? I have omitted "villa" and "de residencia".

El compañero de residencia es un notario que vive en la misma ciudad o localidad. A veces lo llaman "plaza".

What type of document is this?
Are they "partners" or just co-tenants or house mates? (and you have compañeros as plural in heading but singular in text).
sustituto =acting as deputy/substitute but here seems to be "acting on behalf of..." or it could simply be
"representing"

substituting for
or preferably
STANDING IN FOR (my incapacitated partner/fellow notary)
and perhaps
residing at this ADDRESS would be better as well

This sentence appears in a document where a notary public certifies that a photocopy of a passport is a true and accurate copy of the original document he has before him. As for "partner", I think it means that they are both notaries entitled to work in the same city. |

I would use municipality instead of town or city. You are more likely to see this term in legal contracts. Acting on behalf of is common legal jargon that means standing in for.
