I do not know if this helps at all, but decyl is an alkyl radical -C10H21, derived from decane; dodecyl is C12H25, a radical derived from dodecane by removing one hydrogen atom; in other words, decyl implies 10 Carbon atoms and dodecyl implies 12 Carbon atoms. Therefore, a decyl radical is not the same as dodecyl radical.
