French term

Bornier images

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
"Utilisation de borniers images des entrées sorties"

This is in a list of Yes/no questions to a supplier, I only have lines with yes/no tick-boxes, I don't even have a general picture of what we're dealing with... It is in the chapter on "Control-command" the previous lines are:

I know this is not much context but I don't have much more to offer!

Discussion

Fabius Maximus Jun 13, 2014:
@Tony

I think that Tony's interpretation is basically correct, but the purpose may be slightly different, that is not to actually connecte anything in parallel to the I/O, but to have an accessible replica of the signals for temporary testing purposes.
This is a common practice in industrial equipment.
Tony M Jun 13, 2014:
@ Donal Well, I guess that is the right idea, but I have to say the term doesn't quite ring true to my ears.

They may not be master / slave as such — if the wires are merely connected in parallel (which is what I would understand), then there will be no hierarchy and they will be effectively peers.

Maybe 'parallel terminal blocks', 'duplicate...', 'repater...'
DLyons Jun 13, 2014:
@Tony Then maybe "replicated terminals"? There would be a "master" and "slaves".
Tony M Jun 13, 2014:
'mirror' terminal block I believe this is a duplicate terminal block carrying an 'image' or 'mirror' of the 'main' terminal block — i.e. in the computer sense of those terms, a sort of 'carbon-copy', so you can have the same terminal in different locations.

But I have not been able to find any convincing references for those terms, so I think we are in the situation of saying "I know what it IS, but what on earth is it CALLED?!"

Hi DLyons, it's not an image or schematic, it is the actual term, as if it is describing the type of terminal block.

terminal

It seems that you're dealing with a controller, a SIMATIC S7-300 or suchlike.

There are input and output terminals.

Are we just talking about having an image, a schematic, of these?

I/O terminal box

And other occurences if you do a Google search, which make me think it is just a way of emphasizing these terminal boxes are I/O "mirroring" (image) the devices they are connected to.
