extension digits Explanation: I am not sure, whether this is the correct term in English, however, I can explain, what it means in German: it is the number of digits allowed for direct dialling extensions (minimum to maximum number of digits). Also, you can obviously tell the fax machine to wait a certain number of seconds, until the extension is dialled. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 58 mins (2004-04-24 16:12:09 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Sorry, the other way round: You obviously tell the fax machine, how many seconds to wait for extensions before taking the call. |

suffix dialing digits Explanation: ... or "DTMF suffix dialing digits" since these only work with DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) or pulse-tone phones. Suffix dial(l)ing is often used to control devices such as an answering machine from a remote number or to enter PINs etc. for telephone banking. Reference: A Siemens glossary made available for a recent job which unfortunately I am not allowed to release or publish. See also the Web reference below: -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr 27 mins (2004-04-24 16:40:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- PS: If you replace the /en/ by /de/ in the Web reference you will find the term Nachwahl in the original German text.
