Hi colleagues,

I was wondering if anyone of you can help me figuring out the following:

Patient is bekend me antenatale hydronefrose Li waarvoor nader onderzoek is verricht. Klinisch hebben zich geen klachten voorgedaan, m.n. geen UWI met gebruik van trimethoprim OH-dosering.

Really not sure about this OH abbreviation [all I can think of is oligohydramnion].

Any help would be appreciated.

Good job, Sherlock :-)) <br/>I am sure you are right, although, nitpickingly, onderhoudsdosering would probably denote long-term treatment of chronic infection (see, for example https://www.farmacotherapeutischkompas.nl/bladeren/preparaat... ), while the text says "geen UWI" – but where is the doctor who always keeps his/her terminology straight in everyday life ;-)

According to these guidelines, if treated it would be prophylaxis and this would be:

(1 dd 2 mg/kg per dag)

The 'antenatale hydronefrose Li' was already known.
It may well be about an acute concurrent problem.

No way you could 'prophylactic dosing, low-dose or every-other-day dosing' reconcile with 'OH'. At least I don't see it.

Medically speaking, you might expect prophlactic dosing, low-dose or every-other-day dosing (people suffering from urinary obstruction should take prophylactic antibiotics chronically, in order to avoid recurrent urinary tract infections). Is there a way to match "OH" to any of these options in Dutch?

thanks for that hi Barend, glad someone can make sense of this. The use of abbreviations in medical texts (in many languages) can be a bit excessive at times.

possibly 'onder hoge' dosering, athough normally you would say 'in hoge dosering.

Anyway, 'met gebruik van trimethoprim onder/in hoge dosering' makes sense.

On second thoughts I think 'antenatale hydronefrose', 'UWI' and
trimethoprim treatment are related after all.

The patient is treated with a - prophylactic - maintenance dose of trimethoprim

By giving the patient this prophylactic maintenance dose urinary tract infections are prevented.

Thank you, Anne. I don't necessarily make this connection. https://tinyurl.com/ya3t8ge7 : 'Gebruikt u een onderhoudsdosis antibiotica ter preventie van de uwi' To me it sounds like 'keep giving the same dose'... for prophylaxis ... here.
