Robinson (2001a, and elsewhere) has devoted considerable attention to the role of aptitude in SLA, both in and out of the classroom. His contempo¬rary approach abandons isolated aspects of aptitude and instead focuses on aptitude complexes, and he has offered the Aptitude Complex Hypothesis that claims that learning draws on different combinations of cognitive abilities (aspects of aptitude) depending on the conditions of instructional exposure. In short, different learners with different aptitude clusters will respond to different instructional treatments differentially. Thus, the idea of a "uniform" trait called aptitude that is invariant and context-independent does not fit into Robinson's thinking.

Discussion
1. The writer is talking about the "idea" of uniform trait. It's a concept instead of a concrete personal characteristic.
2. "特质" may just be a specific "cluster" in the aptitude that the writer mentions.
That's why I suggest using a generic term like "格式"--"标准能力倾向格式"--to shade off the ambiguity. Or just use the writer's word "概念"--"idea"
But this long, wordy phrase might make the translation of the whole sentence awkward.
If the author is talking about the aptitude test, he's having his sentence here focused on the abstract ideas about aptitude. I think it won't go too far if we put it back into the bigger context of the aptitude test. It will make the translation of the whole sentence easy and natural in Chinese.
----Or something like this.
