during a third speed state, the main shift mechanism is in the same state as the second speed state in which the forward clutch, the brake and the one-way clutch are engaged, and the brake of the subsiduary shift mechanism is engaged. Therefore, the sun gears are fixed, so that rotation from the ring gear is outputted as a second-speed rotation from the carrier. The combination of the second speed of the main shift mechanism and the second speed of the subsidiary shift mechanism provides a third speed as the entire automatic shift mechanism.
