A Longman-féle angol-magyar business szótár a `vesting date’-re a következőt írja:
Hatálybalépés dátuma; dátum, melyen a törvény hatályba lép, és bizonyos szervezetek, intézmények, pl. minisztériumok, helyi önkormányzati szervek, közművek új jogokat, jogosítványokat kapnak.
A `vest’-re pedig: jogokkal ruház fel vkit.
Ezek alapján a `vesting period’-ban van hatályban az intézkedés, így `hatályossági időszak’ (és nem `hatálybalépési időszak’ amire az XX év egyébként is valószínűleg túl sok lenne).

Vesting Schedule
Most options have vesting schedules. This means an employee must wait a few years before all the options can be used. There are two types of vesting: "cliff vesting," in which employees become fully vested all at once after a specified period (usually about five years), and "graded vesting," which vests employees gradually over time. Graded vesting generally takes longer, but percentage increments occur sooner. Although a vesting period can range considerably - with seven years being the maximum allowed by law - four years is the most common vesting schedule.

Explanation:
A munkáltatói társaság részvényeinek adott (és általában jutányos) áron történő vásárlására (a munkáltatótól) kapott jogosultság érvényesíthetőségének időszaka.
Azért lehetne ezt az időszakot „várakozási időszak”-nak is nevezni, mert a gyakorlatban majdnem mindig arról van szó, hogy a munkáltató ezt az időszakot nyújtani igyekszik, hogy az alkalmazott minél később, vagy minél lassabban tudja érvényesíteni a számára előnyös, a vállalat részvényeit illető elővételi jogát. A törvény ezt az időszakot 7 évre maximálja, de az a munkavállaló, akit egy vállalat nagyon meg akar szerezni, talán két évben is meg tud egyezni.

Szerintem nincs más különbség az elővételi jog és az opció opció között, mint az, hogy az utóbbi idegen szó.
opció = elővételi jog (tőzsdén); választhatóság, választási jog, lehetőség (két v. több lehetőség között)
