"Languae Arts" is used in America so as not to produce such a "high-fallutting word" as "filología", which on final analysis is linguistics. But in calling it "Arts", he word better fits the standard Bachelor's Degreee in "Liberal Arts, Major: Languages (or Linguistics)", which contains diciplines concerning a variegated basket of language arts particularly including "language and culture".
