French term

masquage–exposition

French to English Science Geology
A document on sedimentology, this phrase comes up several times:

"These so-called ‘‘hiding’’ or ‘‘hiding-exposure’’ corrections to mobility are supposed to
quantify the degree to which differences in exposure and friction angles tend to offset differences in particle weight", in WATER RESOURCES RESEARCH, VOL. 48, W05506, doi:10.1029/2010WR010341, 2012 - (BUSCOMBE AND CONLEY)

@Phil We've had this discussion before :-) I'm not bothered about the points, and I strongly feel that it is up to all askers to do their own due diligence. So my answers come "caveat emptor" [this one is right though!]

agree Duncan Moncrieff : hiding/exposure factor more simply, (e.g. http://www.water-environment.org/proceedings_pdf/ICWRER2013_... ), or "hiding and exposure corrections" (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2006WR004919/full )
