French term

iléostomie latérale de protection sur baguettes

French to English Other Medical (general) rectal surgery
From a surgery report on a patient who has undergone anterior resection of the rectum: "Réalisation d'une iléostomie latérale de protection sur baguettes dans le flanc droit." I got a lot of Google hits for "protective transverse loop ileostomy" but very few for a "protective lateral ileostomy". (The "baguettes", I gather, are plastic rods used for support). So I'm not sure if this is referring to a loop ileostomy, and whether there are lateral ileostomies. Just wondering if anyone is knowledgeable about this field, and can advise as to the appropriate term. TIA.

Not transverse, though - you're getting mixed up with a transverse colostomy :-)

Yes Sarah, it's loop ileostomy - and the baguettes are stoma rods (glass or plastic rods that form a bridge)
