Not sure if the prefix "Auf" has a special meaning.

Aufprüfzustand = busy test condition

However, in 6 of the 7 references for 'aufprüfen', the word could just as well be substituted by simple 'prüfen'.

The 7th ref uses the term in inverted commas in the sense of an 'upward check' to the next level in a uniselector.

IMO this is just another example for the German practice of adding a prefix to make a word sound more 'scientific'.
