EWE AG’s shareholders, Supervisory Board and Board of Management decided yesterday to agree to EnBW acquiring a 26% equity share in EWE AG. The entry will take the form of an equity purchase and a capital increase. The total volume of the transaction amounts to around two billion euros. The two partners plan in the years ahead to cooperate among other things on renewable energies, in the gas sector and in international activities. A battery of coke ovens looks like a giant chest of narrow drawers laid on its side. Each oven’s width is about 0.5 m, its length between 12 m and 15 m and its height between 4 m and 8 m. Coal usually is dropped into the ovens through an opening in the roof by larry car or can be introduced laterally (on a side).
In batteries of such ovens, gas burning in flues in the walls between ovens heats the coal to temperature between 1200°C and 1.350°C. Between 16 and 20 hours after the coal has gone into an oven, the end doors are removed and a ram pushes the coke into a quenching car for cooling.
Coal is thermally distilled by heating without contact with air at high temperature. Coal is converted into a variety of solid, liquid and gaseous products. Heating drives off gases, oil and tar, which are collected to be made into a myriad of useful by-products.
Life duration of a battery is nearly 30 years.

Une batterie de fours de cokerie ressemble à une énorme commode renversée. Chaque four a une largeur de 0,5 m, une longueur de 12 à 15 m et une hauteur de 4 à 8 m. Le charbon est généralement déversé par une enfourneuse ou un bac dans une ouverture située sur la partie supérieure, ou peut être introduit sur le côté.
Dans les batteries de ce genre de four, le gaz en combustion dans les carneaux (chambres situées dans les piédroits de chaque côté du four) chauffe le charbon à une température de 1200 à 1350°C. 16 à 20 heures plus tard, les portes d’extrémité s’ouvrent et un guide-coke pousse le coke dans un loco pour être refroidi.
Le charbon est distillé thermiquement par chauffage à haute température sans entrer en contact avec l’air. Il se transforme en divers produits solides, liquides et gazeux. Le chauffage libère des gaz, de l’huile et du goudron, lesquels sont récupérés pour être transformés en une variété de sous-produits utiles. La durée de vie d’une batterie est de près de 30 ans.
