German to English: Nachts..... General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English It’s a few minutes before 1:30pm when I am awakened by the droning of the radio alarm clock and open my eyes. I can hear the news subconsciously and half asleep, but my thoughts are somewhere else and I don’t really listen to them. My thoughts wander away, float in the ether, in distant worlds, in far away lands, feelings, known and also unknown to me, confusing ones which scare and frighten me run through my body. They go back to events of the past, run from there towards the present, make me feel, hint at what the future might bring. The thoughts run, race without taking a break, are unstoppable, as if they could not or would not be able to decide where and when to stop. They jump from topic to topic and make me feel dizzy. Not to the extent that I would need to take an aspirin to calm myself down and regain my senses, but to the point in which I lose all senses of time and space. The radio host just reads the traffic report, the latest speed camera updates and the weather forecast. Traffic is slowly becoming normal again, no men in black uniforms who show the current winter collection or hide behind bushes and scare poor citizens. Snow is being announced. I stare at the ceiling, blink slowly. I still don’t move and listen to the radio, but somehow I'm not here, not present but I’m somewhere else, far away, lost in my thoughts. I'm still tired from last night. It was a long and exhausting night again. I worked until seven in the morning and went to bed just before eight.
