MY main object in visiting Africa was to interrogate and study peoples who had never come in contact with whites, and were in a comparatively primitive state of existence. In scanning the world I found there were but few places that afforded this opportunity excepting East Africa. The fact that I was a woman gave me certain advantages over male travellers, and the novelty of a white woman was so great that the inhabitants were full of eagerness and curiosity to see me, giving me many opportunities to see them, as it were, off guard.
My method of procedure was to harmonize and attract towards me rather than to bully and subdue them by any rough methods, and I found myself amply repaid by this course. Although people are always liable to the criticism of having played a r or of having been a trifle theatrical, when they carry out the methods employed by me, no one will dispute that the result has brought forth such quaint points in their character that there is no apology necessary. When I received the Sultans, to hold a "shauri," I made a grand toilet, wearing a white silk gown covered with silver, carrying jewelled swords and belt, and having a yellow wig; in fact, I received all potentates in Africa exactly--except the wig--as if I had been in a civilised country meeting the ruler of such a country. This so delighted them that they immediately brought to me the treasures of their possessions, their best beads, their best clothes, their finest spears, frequently saying that the white men whom they had occasionally seen, came to them in rags and tatters, and were no better off than they were. Having heard that a certain tribe used wigs when dancing, and knowing the difficulty of procuring a specimen of this decoration, my wig served to induce them to fetch me their wigs, and, ultimately, prompted them to present me with such as I now have in my collection.

Mi objetivo principal al visitar África era investigar y estudiar a los pueblos que nunca había tenido contacto con los blancos y, en comparación se encontraban en un estado primitivo de existencia. MASTER COLLABORATION AGREEMENT FOR THE CREATION OF TRANSLATED INTERFACES FOR MICROSOFT PRODUCTS INTO XX

THE PARTIES
On the one side, Mr./Ms. [ ], acting on behalf of the [Basque/Galician Government] (the “XX Government”), having full power and authority to enter into this agreement on the XX Government’s behalf in his/her capacity as [ ].
On the other side, Mr. Steve Ballmer, acting on behalf of Microsoft Corporation (“Microsoft”), having full power and authority to enter into this agreement on Microsoft’s behalf.
WHEREAS
I. Microsoft has developed a software technology called Language Interface Pack Kit which provides the tools for the creation of user interfaces for certain Microsoft products translated into XX and other languages (the “LIP Kit”), in their entirety or in the most visible and most commonly used portions thereof. These translated user interfaces, created using the LIP Kit, are known as “Language Interface Packs” or “LIPs.”
II. Microsoft is willing to collaborate with public authorities, governments or non-profit making third parties by delivering the LIP Kit without receiving payment therefore.
III. Computer programs constitute an essential element for the normalization of the use of the XX language, insofar as they allow the identification of the language with the most advanced technologies and extend that language to all the social sectors, taking advantage of the expansive effect of such technologies.
IV. Both the XX Government and Microsoft consider it appropriate to establish a general collaboration framework in order to regulate the terms and conditions that should govern their relationship concerning the creation of XX LIPs for the Microsoft products that can interface with or benefit from the LIP Kit (the “Microsoft Products”).
NOW, THEREFORE, the parties hereby agree to enter into this master collaboration agreement (hereinafter, this “Agreement”), as follows:
CLAUSES
1. PURPOSE
The parties acknowledge and agree that it is their common interest to procure the creation of XX LIPs for the Microsoft Products. To this end, this Agreement sets forth the stable framework that will provide the grounds for said collaboration. | Translation -

II. Microsoft desexa colaborar coas autoridades públicas, gobernos ou terceiras partes de carácter non lucrativo distribuíndo o LIP Kit sen recibir pago algún.
III. Os programas informáticos constitúen un elemento esencial para a normalización do uso da lingua galega, na medida en que permitan a identificación da lingua coas tecnoloxías máis avanzadas e extendan esa lingua a tódolos sectores sociais, aproveitando o efecto expansivo destas tecnoloxías.
IV. Tanto o Goberno Galego coma Microsoft consideran apropiado establecer un marco de colaboración xeral para regula-los termos e condicións que deben guía-la relación con respecto da creación de LIPs galegas para productos Microsoft que se poden configurar ou beneficiar do LIP Kit (os “Productos Microsoft”).
Por todo o dito, as partes aquí reunidas acordan asinar este acordo principal de colaboración (en diante, este “Acordo”) con base nas seguintes cláusulas:

1. OBXECTO
As partes aceptan e acordan que é do seu interés común procura-la creación dos LIPs galegos para Productos Microsoft. Para este fin, este Acordo dispón o marco estable que proporcionará as bases para esa colaboración.
