Russian to English: Силиконовая грудь спасла израильтянку от гибели - Silicone breasts save Israeli woman’s life General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - Russian
Translation - English Silicone breasts save Israeli woman’s life
A young resident in the north of Israel will apparently never regret having gone through breast enlargement surgery several months back. The silicone implant has not only helped her better her physical shape, but also saved her from death or important injury.
A shard from a Hezbollah rocket launched by terrorists landed in her chest, but did not penetrate deeply injuring the inner organs. Instead, it got stuck in the silicone, a few centimeters away from the heart.
The young woman was offered medical assistance at a hospital in the city of Naharia. She is now in good health.
Russian to English: На шельфе Сахалина для добычи нефти и газа установлена морская платформа "Орлан" - An off-shore oil and gas platform has been built on the Sakhalin shelf General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Petroleum Eng/Sci
Translation - English An off-shore oil and gas platform has been built on the Sakhalin shelf
An off-shore oil and gas platform “Orlan” was installed on the Sakhalin shelf in accordance with the “Sakhalin-1” project. It was transferred from the South Korean port of Ulsan by five toe-boats. “Orlan” will operate alongside the “Yastreb” platform, which was put together earlier on the Sakhalin shore. Both installations will be used to recover oil and gas on the birthplace of Chaivo hydrocarbon materials discovered in the Sea of Okhotsk.
The operator of the “Sakhalin-1” project is the American company “Exxon Oil and Gas Ltd.”. It is foreseen that the yearly recovery of oil by the two platforms will amount to 12,500 thousand tons.
Russian to English: Детектив "Код да Винчи" - “The Da Vinci Code” mystery novel General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Source text - Russian
Translation - English “The Da Vinci Code” is not even an action flick. It’s a pretentious, pompous, and very boring balloon which takes two whole viewing hours to puncture, thus completely tiring out the audience. Why has it gone wrong, what is not right with it? In my opinion, the main problem lies with the director and his approach to the film’s genre.
Why in the hell is this a drama? In its book form, “The Da Vinci Code” is a rollicking action thriller, packed with all sorts of entertaining and at times even witty biblical and historical nonsense. Sure, Brown completely messed up the ending, tying up impossible to tie-up loose ends with seriously thick ropes, but this ending could having been modified in the film and, also, who in the world remembers at the end of a thriller how it all began in the first place?
I’ll summarize. It’s a weak screening of a fairly cinematic subject. A bad mise-en-scene of unneeded length, terrible acting of one of the main characters played by by Tom Hanks an brilliant acting by a secondary character played by McKellan. If you had read the book, you probably should not watch the film. If you hadn’t, you can go ahead and gamble. Me and my cat Bublik were quite disappointed.
