Thanks Giovanna. (Thank goodness this is English otherwise I wouldn't be sure whether to make that a "La ringrazio" or a "ti ringrazio"!) I've written a grovelling e-mail to Gian, offering to clean his boots for the next week - let's hope he refuses!

I really must apologise. I was being over-ironic about askers giving no context and I ended up causing offence. I did put a smiley at the end, but it clearly got cut off, so Gian of course you weren't being superficial! That said, Grazie is difficult tho!

yes, I know. That's why I said that the asker may use it if he/she wants to express a stronger gratitude. It is just an additional answer.

Ti/La/Vi ringrazio

"Ringrazio" means I thank.
"Ti" means you when it is said to a friend, relative or child.
"La" means you when it is said to an acquaintance or a stranger. "La ringrazio" is the formal way of saying thank you.
"Vi" means you when it is said to a group of people.
