Hi, Sarah, in relation to the heart sigmoidal almost always refers to the S shape curve of the ODC curve: The association and disassociation of oxygen from haemoglobin can be described with a sigmoidal graph. But... here it may simply indicate the the opening of the ?? valve is sigmoidal i.e. the flow rate slowly increases to reach a peak and then decrease slowly again, where it should be more or less constant or more rapidly changing. Just a guess, but without more context, it is hard to know. Sigmoid simply means S-shaped. All references in French on circulation (it is usually associated with the colon, of course), refer to the shape of the oxygen/heamoglobin exchange, which depends on oxygen pressure in the lungs or in the muscles... Because this is an Electrocardiogram report it may refer to the appearance of the EKG waves open sigmoid pattern. For example in specific rythmns you get certain patterns; Torsades, vfib, atrial flutter --saw tooth; etc.
